Generations is so good.

I watched Generations today and I can't believe how good it is and so emotional to, I've always had a soft spot for Search for Spock but even though I've seen Generations before it's slowly becoming my favourite Trek film and probably one of my favourite Sci-Fi films too.

I love the scenes in Kirks house, and I love how it bridges the old with the new (for the time), and the sequences in the Nexus were great too, and Data's cat, so cute.

I also love the exchange between Picard and Riker at the end too.

I think I'm going to get everything Generations I can get my hands on, I love to get other peoples opinions on this film, so what do you think of it?

I like it more than most, but of course I think Kirk's death is a bit disappointing/anticlimactic. I think I enjoyed the Nexus scenes least of all... especialy Picard's beastly little children.

The lighting throughout the movie is beautiful - especially the new bridge of the Enterprise-D (new console, dimmer lights). It looks especially good during the battle sequence, as well as the moment when the first star is swelling up and about to explode.

I've liked it successively more on repeated viewings. It's a much better film than I originally gave it credit for.

Moving to Trek Movies though.

"Generations" is an idiot-plot film, the events of which never should have happened because Picard was a smart enough character to leave the Nexus at a point BEFORE the Amagosa Observatory was attacked, when he could have simply arrested Soran for trafficking in the illegal tri-lithium and taken him into custody before he harmed any one or anything (in fact, he probably could have prevented the deaths of his own family members at the same time).

Stupid, stupid movie, the events of which make no sense even within the established frame-work of the story it told.

Oh my, where should I begin...

There are so many things that went wrong with generations it's not even funny....

Well at lease Generations was better than The Final Frontier and Nemesis.

Sorry about that I didn't realise I'd put it in the wrong section.

I think though some films have to have slightly silly parts in them or they would be only 10mins long, I mean would you really go in the haunted house in a scary film, or why do people in action films fire thousands of bullets trying to kill somebody and when they get right next to the person they want to kill they stop firing and then start talking to them.

It was a movie for the long time fans. At least it stuck to cannon unlike some of the later films.

Sure the obvious plot holes are there, but I still find it to be truest to the series out of the 4 movies (probably because it was written as the series was ending.)

"Generations" encumpases nearly everything a TNG movie should be. IT sticks true to the characters, has some character developement, "feels" like TNG, looks like TNG, and has a good score to boot (though I am a BIG fan of the next two TNG movie scores).

"First Contact" was just "okay". It's nothing special, suffers from studio interference, and tries to do things with the characters that just doesn't "feel" right. And to top it off, it's just another actiony Borg pic. Much like a random Bord episode of Voyager.

"Insurrection" is heart was in the right place, but it still failed. At least it's better than FC.

"Nemesis" is unforgivably bad.

The film had good atmosphere, as someone mentioned - great lighting, some really good character moments, and will always hold fond memories for me.

But it just was not that good!

I would ceratinly hold it up there with TWoK, and none of the films are better than TWoK, so that makes it good by default.

I haven't seen it in a while but I don't remember it being said that you could exit the Nexus at any place and time of your choosing. At best it seems you might have a few options.

Guinan quite explicitly tells Picard that he can go anywhere and anywhen. :)

Picard, for whatever reason, chooses to go back and confront Soran again.

David R. George III's novel Crucible: Kirk: The Star to Every Wandering explains Generations very well. It gives more background to the film and makes it make sense. :)

It's not a horrible movie but it is filled with flaws and I think Picard's Nexus vision is just too much, too sappy, and not "true to the character" among other problems I have with the movie (:cough:destroying the -D:cough:) but it's not the worst on my list.
