Knight Rider 2008 Series SPOILERS

I posted a similar thing awhile but I have to reinterate

I'm sick of nano tech being the scifi tech for practically everything these days. Last time it was wormholes now this.

What would you prefer KITT use that hasn't been used before? Just curious. I can think of a few things that aren't quite that exciting. The MBS has been done (though it would be a nice bit of continuity). Perhaps a special alloy? That seems a bit...super old and dull. What about a force shield? That's hardly new either. I guess I'm curious if you're tired of nanotech, how would you go about explaining KI3T's bullet proofing and morph capabilities?

I still prefer the morphing from one style Mustang to another style Mustang versus transforming into a completely different vehicle.

Yeah the morphing makes sense if the changes are really subtle, or if he's just changing colors.

The transformation I'd prefer only happen when KITT changes into attack mode, or some other variation of it (much like with super pursuit mode on the original show). Anything more than that definitely strains credibility.

Why does it need to be anything "kewler", exciting and newer?

What's wrong with just sticking with the MBS. "He's bullet proof and nearly indestructable. With this new formulaiton of the shell he can change colors and there's hidden panels that'll reveal air-scoops and a spoiler for other drive-modes."

IS the point of this show going to be to get people to cream their pants to see a Mustang moprh into a Ford 150? If so then we need to write this bitch off now.

I don't see why he can't just be like he was in "KR:TOS" and just be a indestructable and highly advanced automobile. Having all of the sattelite links in him, EMPs, scanners and such in him is still plenty cool enough. Give him the ability to (like the KIFF had and the orignal KITT had to an extent) to drive on water by hydroplaning at high speeds/become a hovercraft on the tires.

There's ways to make him technologicaly cool in this day and age without going absurd and giving him the ability to fold time and space and physics and give him the ability to change from a car into a truck stuffing and folding panels into nowhere and growing new and very different ones from the same place. This is turning out to just be absurd.

^^Uhh, it's Knight Rider. Why would you expect it to be anything other than absurd? Maybe you're taking this a bit too seriously.

The original poster was implying (and OP, tell me if I'm wrong) that he was tired of nanotech being the "trendy scifi plot device" for things such as (in his example) wormholes were previously. I was merely curious what his alternative to nanotech would have been.

I would drop the nanotech and just go back to the basics of knight rider. A man who does not exist with his advanced talking car. I'd stick to the MBS.

The nanotech and transforming are just gimmicks to keep the show fresh(and this is the first season!). It's like "Viper" gaining a hovercraft mode or Kitt's Super pursuit mode.

What next? the mustang will fly?

^ Damn, how did you find their early scripts.

Just so long as we don't have a T:TSCC crossover I'm fine with it.

The season finale has KITT testing out his time and space abilty and he runs right into Cameron. Neither one are damaged. They look at each other

dum dum dum dum!

"To be continued"

seems unlikely given one is on FOX and one is on NBC

It was a joke. Two days after the KR Miniseries there was a comic strip making fun of both series. In it Mike is complaining about KITT's lack of capabilities and at the end KITT interrupts him and says they have to find a woman named Sarah Connor.

Season opener teaser:

Cameron looks at KITT's sensor which pulses back and forth. She frowns, then her features soften and she utters one word.

"Grandpa?"

CUE CREDITS!

Cameron: I thought you were melted down?
KITT: I cannot be melted down. I have a molecularly bonded shell.
Cameron: I thought that you used nanites to keep yourself protected? You had shut it off and Skynet melted you for T-800 parts.
KITT: I no longer have a molecularly bonded shell? I am the next generation model and I have no protection when I'm powered off. That sounds like a step back instead of a step forward.
Cameron: You admit that sounds stupid?
KITT: Yes.
Cameron: Fanboys rejoyce.

I think they are playing with those ideas you mention. At some point it seems Mike Traceur needs to take on a new identity. The producers have mentioned something about his old identity and wartime activities catching up with him (really curious about that point).

As for the MBS, I too wouldn't mind if they reintroduced it. However, if they wanted an "in universe" explanation, there's been tons of debate over whether the MBS can even be recreated. Supposedly only certain people had components of that formula and no one person had the entire thing. That being the case, they could easily say "Person X died accidentally/was murdered etc. and took the secret with him"

One of the FX people working on the show posted an earlier test version of an ad run during the Olympics. You can view it here: http://www.knightridermovie.com/2008/kittday_sound_480p.mov

Regarding the clip he says:

"First off, this was a test. I shot it in our back parking lot with my HVX200 walking around an empty space. You can see sound stages and camera trucks in the background. The car, in both forms, is 100% CG. Nate Evans, our 3D lead did the texturing and transform for this test, then my team did the 3D tracking and compositing.

We were pretty shocked to see it air on national televison. I thought it was pretty cool of NBC to do that! That's a sign that we are doing something right in house.

3D has worked a lot more on the realism of the transform since this test and I have been working on the HUD more (making something that rhymes with "Murbo Loost")."

I believe all three people who know part of the formula are all dead now including Devon Miles.

Yes, but I believe KITT had the formula stored in his data files. On more than one episode he would explain to someone, "I have a molecular bonded shell which is made up of..." and then the camera would cut away. Also, when Garth Knight created Goliath, he had stolen the formula and for all we know Garth is not dead.
