What WAS that I saw?

In the episode of Galeo seven, which I just saw this weekend, there is this strange scene. Its when Spock and the others are out trying to find the monsters. And for a moment, there is a like a split screen shot of Fog or something like that, the just covers their legs. Its always been there since the original showing, but it is so obvious its, well, an eye sore...anyone else see what I am thinking of???
