What Will TDK's Final (Domestic) Box Office Total Be?

What Will TDK's Final (Domestic) Box Office Be?

Based on projections, I had initially forecast the film to be somewhere around $470m after this weekend. Looks like it should be pretty close.

Which would have it pass the original Star Wars as the second highest grossing film of all time.

Damn, that's impressive.

Well, that Star Wars figure is a bit misleading because it only made $307 million in its original run, $15 million in the 1982 re-release, and $138 million in 1997 as the Special Edition. Of course, that's all unadjusted for inflation.

What I find a little funny is that, even into March or so, it was the SECOND most anticipated film of 2008. Indiana Jones being #1. And now... it left Indy in the dust within 2 weeks.

I wish the INTL figures got updated more often, and with more accuracy. Despite the totals being updated every week or so, they still say the same numbers as first week for many countries. I'd like to know the individual nations as well as the totals.

Only domestically. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull still leads internationally by a large amount.

Not by that much. Indy IV is at $777 million worldwide and TDK is at $735 million (and that's without this weekend's international numbers). TDK will easily overtake Indy IV in worldwide box office, and now that Potter 6 has been moved to 2009 TDK should take the worldwide crown for 2008.

Edit to add: so TDK managed to pip Clone Wars to the #2 spot. Excellent!

Box office Mojo is just updating. TDK is now #2 all time domestic (raw $).

$4,950,000 (Est. Friday)
$6,760,000 (Est. Saturday)
$5,080,000 (Est. Sunday)

$471,493,000 (Est. Total)

Wow, $16.79 million! That exceeded my expectations! :D

Worldwide, yes, but that's because of The Dark Knight's huge domestic numbers. What I was referring to was just the international numbers. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has made $461.5 million to The Dark Knight's $263.5 million. A HUGE margin.

Oh, right. I get what you were saying now.

Awesome! It held on and only went to #2! And took the crown as second highest grossing film of all time!

Woo!

^ Yep. Your hyperbole matches mine.

That's EXACTLY what he's done.

Actually, part of the hatred is for the apologists who continue to give him a free pass(and $10 for a movie ticket)so he can continue to pump out this rubbish.

One person's rubbish is another person's treasure or so they say. TDK still on barely beat his "toilet" project as you say.

I think I'd be more impressed if TDK's budget and ticket prices were lower, Star Wars made over 400% profit, we'll never see a movie perform like that again.

TDK, in its fifth weekend, barely beat a new Star Wars movie in its first, that is a commercial for a TV on Cartoon Network this fall.
So...when even its champions make excuses for it on that basis, I'd think that tips the scales towards "trash" rather than "treasure".
