Romulan mess?

AotF came out in 2005 so the split started 3 years ago.As for earning the return to glory. That would be great if something would be written about the topic.Instead we get Borg story after Borg story. If your a Klingon fan you atleast get Klag and his bunch.I'll admit for awhile with the Vulcan's Soul trilogy,DiW,Titan TW and AotF you could get tired of the Romulans.I am looking foward to Enterprise KM with some Romulan ties. It's just as a Romulan fan and I guess this is the point of being up in the air.I just want my old sneaky Roms back and right now their just a joke.

Hopefully it will happen after Destiny. The Borg will most likely be gone for awhile, DS9 will go back to dealing with Cardassia and the Gamma Quadrant, Titan will go back to exploring where ever it's at, so that leaves either TNG or VOY to possibly pick up the Romulan story.

Which means I really need to hurry my Trek reading along. I've got Articles of the Federation on my shelf just waiting to be read.

^ Also, the mainstay DS9 Relaunch is still several years away from those events.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

The Borg will most likely be gone for awhile,

I dunno..... the titles of the follow-up books and my amazing powers of COMPLETE HUNCH ..... I just don't know... :shifty:

All I can say is: The situation with the Romulan Star Empire and the Imperial Romulan State has not been forgotten.

Well, that and to make it clear that that split has only been documented in Articles of the Federation (and briefly in Greater than the Sum). The seeds of it were sown in the first two Titan books and retroactively in Q & A.

But we'll see more. Worry not. :)

Not to mention ENT: The Good That Men Do, TOS: The Empty Chair, and DS9: Hollow Men.

In that same 3 year period we've had TOS: Errand of Fury books 1 & 2, GRK: Enemy Territory, KLE: A Burning House, and TOS: Forged in Fire as Klingon focused novels (not sure if I missed any there). Plus, both Romulans and Klingons have been supporting characters in Vanguard.

For the Borg, TNG: Resistance, TNG: Before Dishonor, and TNG: Greater Than the Sum and CoE: The Light.

Seems like a good mix, even a higher-than-average focus on the Romulans. I'm sure the attention will eventually shift back to the Romulan situation. Can we give the author's a chance to tell their stories before we declare things "crap"?

factionalised governments leading to a nation-state breaking up?

that never happened in real-life did it? *cough*Yugoslavia*cough*

personally, i look forward to more Romulan split coverage.

Will the IRS become 'good guy' Romulans and the RSE 'bad guy' Romulans?!

Is that a spoiler for A Singular Destiny?

Come on we knew someone would eventually ask...

I just wanted to go on record as being in favor of the Romulan split. I think it provides interesting storytelling opportunities and I look forward to seeing what the author's do with the situation.

As for it being "crap"...It seems like a fractured central government is a logical result of an enormous power vaccum being created by the loss of both the senate, and the leader who assassinated the Senate all in less than a few weeks.

As for wanting "some glory back" for the Romulans...let's see them earn it in the stories to come.
I'll second that ! (all of it). :techman:

If anything it's a wonder why there aren't more splinter states among the various galactic powers. (Not really -- the TV shows would have had to spend too much screen time explaining things, whereas alien blocs made for a convenient shorthand. But then, this discussion doesn't involve that medium, does it?)

The IRS, good guys?

I know this is science fiction, but come on...

"they are hailing us Captain, they said... you have failed your audit.."

"Damn! I knew I shouldn't have said dinner with Jean-Luc Picard was a business dinner when it was really I just wanted to have dinner with him. But we did discuss business! I asked him what it was like to Captain the Enterprise!"

*The IRS hauls the Captain off to jail*

I wonder who would be worse. The IRS or the Tal'Shiar?

Actually, Yugoslavia was never a nation-state. It was always a multi-national state composed of communities of people who never really thought of themselves as a single people, and the Serbians always dominated it. If anything, the breakup of Yugoslavia would be more akin to the liberation of Romulan vassal worlds from Romulus' grip than it would be to the RSE/IRS split.

A better comparison might be to Korea, Vietnam, or Germany.

You can add the Cardassians to that mix as well. Between this year's Terok Nor trilogy and Fearful Symmetry, and next year's The Soul Key and The Never Ending Sacrifice, they too will have gotten their fair share of the spotlight.

The Tholians have a recurring and prominent role in Vanguard.

And of course, there's also next year's Seven Deadly Sins anthology, which, in addition of including several of the above, will also have stories about the Ferengi, the Pakleds, and the Mirror Universe.

And we're not done. Plans are afoot to delve into some of Star Trek's other "less-traveled" empires, as well as to continue introducing readers to entirely new alien civilizations.
