Star Trek Las Vegas Aug 6-10 "08" Schedule

Mom! ... I'm home! ...

It was a fun week and great to meet everyone. Funny thing is I met an elderly couple from the small town I work in. So, what did I think?

Not sure I would do a gold pass again. I ended up not using seven of the included autograph tickets. I was in row K and it took 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get to the head of the autograph line. Honestly, unless I have something special to be signed by someone special I would rather they hand me a pre-signed autograph and avoid the line. I did have Connor and Dominic sign a Shuttlepod One script. I also got banners for Jolene and Dominic to sign.

Photo-ops are interesting. They go quicker than autographs but you get to touch the stars. Jolene was my first photo-op and she looked almost as uncomfortable as me.

Jolene thinking: "Why did I agree to this?"
Me thinking: "Don't get to close or she might run off screaming. Try to smile. Bet I look like a dork."

I did look like a dork and no one will ever see that picture. Nichelle Nichols was next. She pulled me close and smile naturally. The picture looks better but I still looked like a trapped animal. By the time I did the photo with Anthony Montgomery I had seen the Jolene photo and almost backed out of doing any more. He was great. I told him that I have no idea what to do. He put his arm around me and smiled. It was the first photo to turn out halfway decent. Dominic's photo did a little better because I was relaxing more. When it came time for Connor I was still keeping my distance and went into my stage-fright daze. He could tell I was really uncomfortable. He said a few lines that I cannot remember and gave me a "It's ok" smile, then shook my hand, put his arm around me, leaned over so we actually touched, and gave me the best picture of the bunch.

Most of the actors did real well when taking the stage. The Voyager crew was a riot and told a lot of stories. Tuvok and a black sock in his shorts, farting in the transport tube, etc... They also had the most uncomfortable moment when a fan let some unfortunate news slip. After seeing the two Spock's on stage I went away feeling much better about the new movie. While DS9 and Avery Brooks are great, I got really board with his talk. Too contemplative for too long. It was meaningful, but it drug the crowd down.

Brannon and Manny were much better than I expected. Though I hate some of the stuff they did I also know we would not have had Enterprise without them and the crowd seemed to agree. They took more heat for the Voyager episode that dealt with warp 10 than anything. They talked about "24" and Jinx asked then why it took so long for them to get Connon into an episode. They said they were waiting for the right part. Whenever I see a post by Jinx now I will think about Brannon saying "MORE CONNOR!" :guffaw:

Food and parties: I enjoyed the Bingo party but it was short and the prizes were not very spread out. Five winners for the night. The Gold party at the experience was just ok. Too crowded and food was not that good. Not enough seating, and when the guest performed they quickly disappeared. A few of the minor or older stars did hang around and was assessable. The orchestra was disappointing as it was obvious they hardly practiced the music. Sure it is a one-night gig but these should be high level professionals and there is no excuse for the sloppiness in the brass section. The Tim Russ band was pretty good and they made the Dessert Party worth attending. I was surprised how few people was there but it did start very late.

Questions: Overall the audience questions were not too bad. Sure some are asked every time a guest makes an appearance, but hey, this was my first trip and I wanted to hear the answers. I bet others felt the same way. The people finally stopped introducing their dogs but James the 11 year old (almost) asked a question every time. I'd rather hear him than the lady that wanted to know if they had received the poetry she sent them and always ended up asking about other work they did that she had never seen. When the two Spock's were on they asked each other questions and that was good.

Anthony Montgomery: While seeing various cast members on stage my opinion when up in some cases and down in others. Anthony did the most to improve my impression of him. He was funny, articulate, and had good stage presence. I went away thinking he should have been given more lines and face time. But, he was in a role that hardly ever gets much face time.

Scheduling: Though the site tells you to order tickets for autographs and photo-op's early because they may sell out, don't. I ordered my photo-op's early and 5 of the 6 ended up being on a single day. I never want to have a schedule like that again. It was also the day that most of the Enterprise cast talked and gave autographs. Next time I will wait until I see a schedule.

Grand Canyon: The best part of the trip. I did a tour that included a bus to the bolder airport, flight over Hover Dam and to the canyon, helicopter down to the bottom, boat ride on the river, copter back out, bus to the reservation, and then a flight back. It was expensive but worth it to do once.

Next year: I'm back and forth on this. It may depend on the guest list and how much vacation time I have. I did need this trip and came home much more relaxed than when I left. I would pay more for a gold ticket on the first 3 rows, and avoid paying for gold where I was because they go by row for the included autographs and I was in the back section of the gold seating. It was fun and I liked meeting the people from the forum and strangers that happened to be in my line or at my table. It is too bad they don't arrange activities like group tours to Hoover Dam or even a night time trip down the strip to see the lights.

This was a HUGE event with lots of guests. It will be hard to consider a smaller show after this. But size comes with a price. Unless you are lucky like Pensive you don't get any time to talk to the stars.

That is all I can think of for now. This reporter is signing out. Night all. I have to get my hours back to East Coast working-man time. I'll be numb and lifeless tomorrow. :vulcan:

Congratulations Boushh Thanks for the Report updates Boushh, Jinx and Sf Rabid.I really like the new Scott Bacula picture and the other photos :bolian: of Zack and Leonard Nimoy and the ds9 cast.

I just got back from the convention. I'm not a very social person in real life, so I doubt I met any people from these boards on here.
Anyway, I have a blast and I thought it was really cool that Michelle Forbes and Scott Bakula were personalizing autographs when they weren't supposed to.
I heard Malcolm McDowell was personalizing autographs as well, but I didn't get mine personalized. It doesn't matter to me either way, but if an actor asks me if I want it personalized, I'll go for it.

^^ I thought it was good of Bakula to personalize for people. I didn't realize others were doing it too. :)

SFRabid, good report and convention going advice. :) It was great meeting and speaking with you even if it was brief. There were so many people there and everyone's schedules so all over the place that it was tough getting quality time. :(

Reanok, thanks. :)

Here are some of the pictures I took of the actors on stage:

Great reports everyone, and I love the pictures!

Jolene looks fabulous and the boys are just

I'm very tempted to try next year's convention if I could get the time off work.

Much appreciated, Jinx. I always look forward to hearing about any fragments of what the plan for ENT might've been.

The first thing Brannon said after taking his seat was "Be nice to Manny, he didn't do anything wrong."

Manny said their plan for the Mirror Universe stories was to do one every 4 to 5 episodes as a "parallel series within a series" picking up with Empress Sato -- audience reaction was positive for what might have been.
That fits with Mike Sussman's novella from the Glass Empires trade paperback and how it ends with a cliffhanger, possibly being picked up in more ENT MU stories. I'm not sure how four episodes each season, set in another universe could have worked. It leaves less room for historical events that needed to be shown, and character development for our heroes...

As many here already know, Manny said they had also planned to do a Cloudminders prequel and were going to introduce to Harry Mudd's grandfather probably as a pirate (the thinking being that criminal activity tends to be a "family business.").
That's very interesting about a member of the Mudd family being brought into Enterprise. A very Coto move to happen and I'm betting the Cloudminders show would've seen him introduced. I'm not against the idea and typically a new showrunner will invest in adding at least one new recurring character. It could have been an outlet for Manny's obvious passion for TOS, without making every show a prequel to a 60's episode. Several years back, there was a proposed fan bible for Season 5 drawn up over at Trekunited. Tom (aka Fleetlord) had a similar concept with a character called Fenton or "Fenn" Mudd, doubtless based on conversations with him at the time.

Jolene looked amazing. 10x better than in 2005. She looked beautiful. Her talk was great too. I thought she looked much more comfortable on stage than when I saw her last.

:wtf:

... and when I got Jolene's autograph I said to her, *boushh inserts the rest of the story here....*

Oops. I missed this. I'll add my little JB and CT and SB stories.

They played my video before Jolene's talk and then Jolene came out and talked about Starship Troopers and took questions from the audience. Some highlights included that she was going to be getting two puppies the next day, she plays Guitar Hero, and if she was marooned on a deserted planet and could only pick one guy (choices Archer and Trip) she'd pick Trip. Hee. :) I believe that last bit somehow segued into her mentioning that whoever did that clip (my video before her talk) did a really good job at making it seem like the relationship had some sort of resolution or something like that. She was rather more relaxed than when I saw her last. It was interesting because she talked about how when she was young she lacked any social skills whatsoever and a school teacher encouraged her to try acting and that started to bring her out of her shell.

So anyway, while on line for her autograph I noticed the three poodles that were dressed in TNG costumes and getting rolled around in a cart. They had sparked Jolene's puppy revelation. I pointed them out to the couple in front of me and we started chatting about whether or not our dogs would stand for being dressed up like that. I asked them what kind of dog they had and they said they had a Cavalier. I asked them if they knew that Jolene has a Cavalier. They didn't know. I told them to mention that they have one when they got up there. So once we got up there it seemed that they had mentioned it, which was a good way for me to ask her what kind of puppies she was getting the next day. Answer: Cavaliers. I think I said something like, "Oh cute. Congrats. I have a Cocker." and she said, "They're cousins [you know]." Like we had something in common, LOL. So I said that I knew. :) I also said that I was the video contest winner (I don't know if she realized that is what was played before she went out. If she didn't then she must have by the time I finished) and she did this little clap and smile thing in congrats. I then said that there was no shortage of great footage of her to use for the video and then she said, "or Connor" and I agreed. :) Then I said bye and she said see ya or something and that was that. Hee. :)

My mini-CT story:

At the end of the day I had to go to the photo op with CT. I got to go ahead in Anthony's autograph line because for that reason. :) And I still can't believe they scheduled those things at 8:20pm! I was running on adrenaline at that point. Anyway, so I got to the front of the line and the usher lady said something about "pretty in pink" since I was wearing pink. LOL. She distracted me from Connor and next thing I knew I was being told to go. Unprepared? Of course. You'd think I'd have been prepared with something other than, "Hi. How are you?" No idea what he said. He put his arm around me and I did the same and in like two seconds the picture was over. He turned towards me and maybe shook my hand again and said, "It was good seeing you again... We have met before right?" and I was like, "Yeah a few times. Then I made the split decision to mention that I had sent him my video (he had asked me to send "A Message" to him last year) and you could see him putting things together in his head... and I elaborated by saying it was at the Cherry Hill, NJ convention and it was a Trip and T'Pol video. He practically freaked out and said, "Yeeees! It's awesome. I play it for people all the time." How I did not pass out, I don't know. I think I said "Really?? and something about being really happy he got it and he liked it so much. Then I asked if he really plays it for people and he said yes or something equivalent and I sorta did a mini-happy dance and touched him on the shoulder and said thank you and see ya next time and I left. AAAAAAAAAAAHHHH. I should have sat there a second or something, but I always feel like I'm taking up time from other people.

I asked Scott if he was going to come and do theater in NY anytime soon. He said he wants to. I said, "Come on! You have to!" and he said, "I know. I want to! We'll see." :)

So those are my stories so Jinx has no reason to hit me over the head for not mentioning them before. ;)

lol! you were more coherent than I would have been in the same situation!

Lovely Connor pics  but might I had a  for Scott...wow does that man not age?

Thanks for the reports!

^^ Yeah, he's a hottie... and if I remember right, there were a few ladies who stepped up to the microphone and indicated that to him. LOL.

I don't think this was mentioned, so I wanted to add that I think Bak_and_Blue had her video played in front of Scott's appearance, which probably means she was a contest winner too. I thought I remembered seeing the video before and lo and behold here it is: Hero of the NX-01.

Hopefully she'll arrive and confirm this. :)

Hi all, just got back after a really horrible flight from Atlanta. Plane was delayed for 5 hours because of an air conditioning problem. First they loaded us all on while they fixed it, then they told us to get off because it was like an oven on board, then we had to wait another 2 hours before they finally tracked it down and solved it. The flight over the Atlantic was supposed to be smooth, but the turbulance was horrendous. It got scary at one point when the captain had to ask the air hostesses to sit down and suspend services for about 15 minutes till the flight stopped bouncying around. As soon as I got off in Manchester, I just wanted to kiss the ground and thank god.

Vegas was great and the convention was a blast despite the heat. It did get to me a bit because I recently found out before I went to Vegas that I was 3 months pregnant. So I've been knackered with all the heat and the walking about. Thank god my schedule wasn't as bad as Jinx's. It was fab meeting you all again - Jinx, Boush and meeting you at last SFRabid. I thought Creation were a lot more relaxed in how they let fans mingle with the guests during photo ops and autographs, considering how they used to be.

The guests were awesome - Avery Brooks - One word - WOW. We just looked at each other where we were sitting and all you could here was WOW, that man certainly has presence.
Brent and Marina were funny and great. I got to talk to Brent when I had my autograph about the play Patrick Stewart was in at the moment in England with David Tennant. He asked me what I thought about it, as I had seen it the previous Friday in Stratford, and that he would love to go as well. Creation didn't seem to mind that he was chatting with all the fans for about five minutes at a time, despite the huge queue.
Jolene looked great. She showed clips from Starship Troopers her new film. She did say that something else was in the pipeline but she didn't want to talk about it because she didn't want to jinx it. The promo looked good for ST but I'm not sure I'll buy it since the reviews I've heard about it are not very good. She was very nice and articulate, mentioning Boush's video that played before she came on. She thought it gave the impression that her relationship on screen with Trip ended with good resolution. When someone mentioned what she thought about that, she thought it was heading in the right direction when the series ended and that she would have liked to have seen it progress and develop more. Another person asked her who she would have liked to have been stranded with - Trip or Archer on a dessert island. She instantly said Trip:techman::lol:. She again stated her dislike of TATV and that she loved the MU episodes.
The boys were great during lunch and it was great being able to chat with them one to one. It was certainly great hearing about Connor doing another Stargate Atlantis, a Criminal Minds episode and hearing about him going to appear on 24 - Especially when Manny stated that they were planning out the season and it might not be just one episode. When Jinx asked why it took so long, they told her that they wanted to find him a spot where he would shine.:techman:
Scott was good on stage and seemed to be enjoying himself. He was teased a lot when someone asked about his albums and where to buy them and someone shouted out - a dime a doller store. He stated about the politics about why the show was cancelled and the the roast he had just done with Bob Sagat was rude - certainly not for the kids. He said that he had not watched the final episode TATV and that he didn't want to. I got the impression that this was because he didn't like it, but he wouldn't elaborate further. He sang some snippets of songs for people and talked about the film he has recently done. Someone asked him about relationships on the show. They said that even though they decided to go ahead with the Trip/T'Pol relationship in Season 3, it did look as if an Archer/T'Pol relationship was on the cards during Season 1 and 2. He said that although it was nice some fans had thought that, it never been on the cards and was just in there imagination.

All in all a great convention - one that I would definately go back to, despite not being able to win big on the slots in the casino:guffaw:

I don't think Grandpa Mudd was going to be part of the Cloudminders prequel. Manny said Cloudminders would be about the city being under construction and how the society came to be split into two castes.

Leonard did too! I guess he insisted because somebody went around handing out post-its for people to write down their names.

It's amazing how accommodating Creation can be when a star insists...

Sorry we didn't meet, Matt! I wish I had thought earlier to use my seat row and number to let people know where they could find me during forums because I knew other people who could have met up with us too.

Next time we should plan a day for a group breakfast at the buffet. It does not cost too much there and breakfast does not interfere with anything on the schedule but sleep.

Well, I could have posted my seat row and number before hand, but I didn't want to get the crap beat out of me for daring to talk trash about JJ Abrams and his new movie.

... As soon as I got off in Manchester, ...

Hmmmm. My flight from Vegas to Atlanta yesterday was supposed to continue on to Manchester but they made everyone get off and moved those advancing to Manchester to a different flight. Were you on that flight? I think we left Vegas at 10:40 AM local time.

Good to see that you're back safe and sound, Hoshi'sSis! I'm sorry you had such a yucky flight though. :(

I was on the 10.50 AM local flight from Vegas to Atlanta with Delta. It was supposed to continue on to Manchester but they moved us to another gate which had first been scheduled to Denver and then later changed to Manchester. As soon as we moved and maintenance were checking the plane they discovered the air conditioning fault. We should have left Atlanta at 8pm but we didn't leave until about Midnight. We did catch up on some of the time lost during the flight because of the tail wind that was in our favour but we still ended up arriving about 4 hours late back in manchester.

Thanks Boushh, great to see you home in one piece as well.

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!! Before I blab for years about my experience:

Next time we should plan a day for a group breakfast at the buffet.

I'll only agree to a breakfast if it's one of the days where my ENT boys aren't in the building...and I think you know why

First of all, let me just say that meeting all of you fine people from the boards was one of the major parts of my convention experience. JiNX-01, boushh, SFRabid, Hoshi's sis, Number6, Top41, good god I am leaving people out I know....but you all were so gracious and wonderful!

Okay, and now the telling of tales shall commence:

JiNX-01 already mentioned the Enterprise lunch. I will only toot my own horn once, and say that making the ENT coat was one of the most brilliant ideas I've ever had. Anthony snatched that thing up before he even sat down to speak to our table, and ran around the room with it. Thunderous applause ensued, and I turned 80 shades of red. The coat was also an ice-breaker for me to meet anyone in an ENT jumpsuit. By the way, just so no one gives me more credit than is due: I didn't make the coat from scratch, I only modified a coat I found with the patches and such. I can't sew my way out of a paper bag (but remind me to work on that skill for next con).

More on the lunch, since it was hinted at: I love my ENT boys, and when Dominic sat down with us he sat between myself and JiNX (told you guys that empty chair was a good idea!) Boy did he look good, all tanned from surfing. He raved about having caught some huge waves the day before and riding them for about 100 yards each. I didn't see it but boushh swears up and down that DK was checking me out (I WON'T ARGUE
wigglebrow.gif
). Dominic said the stuff in his tea bottle was "jesus juice." I asked if he had enough to share with the class lol.

My photo ops with DK and Connor were great. Connor looked exhausted from all the autographs he had to sign, but was so friendly to everyone. He grabbed my hand and pulled me into a hug. Here I thought he wouldn't remember me from the lunch, and boy was I wrong! Dom said "hello gorgeous" when I got my photo with him

Thud.gif
... fdasllk;aa

The Friday night party was really fun--Anthony did a great job rapping, and Jeffrey Combs played guitar for everyone. I made sure to compliment him on it, because I had no idea he could play guitar. I got some of his stuff on video.

I have more stories but they aren't directly ENT related, so I might just post those in other threads. Stuff like the J.G. Hertzler-Walter Koenig Dance Experience

I must say that it was an undeniable pleasure to get to meet so many of you!!

It was so much fun having drinks and such with Jinx and Pensive (sorry you didn't join us, Boushh!!) and getting to close the place with Larry Nemecek!!

I also got to meet Top41, Jkladis, CaptainHawk1 and another wonderful dude, whose name I have sadly forgotten because I'm such a stupid ass.
It was great to put the names and faces together.
Carolyn and I had a marvelous time.
