Who's Going To Creation's Las Vegas Convention?

Well, I am home! I managed to run into SFRABID for a minute or so (It was nice meeting you!) and then I managed to located JiNX-01. I cannot thank you enough for your kindness and willingness to help me out with that Michael Dorn signature. I don't think there are many other people like you! Thanks again. It was great getting to meet you. I hope you like the DVD's.

It was cool meeting you and your Heroes-loving -- Trek Not So Much -- son! I also got to meet SFRabid and we ran into Number6 and his Number One ;) (who were nice enough to let Pensive and me share their table so we could jump a very long line at Quark's Sunday night. BTW, don't bother getting the Tucker Warp 5 chili unless you like it mild enough to feed to a newborn). Anyway, we had great long discussion about Enterprise -- I was the only one at the table that hated (most of) ANIS! Loved spending that time with them! Wish we'd run into each other sooner!!

Well, my first day today was fun. But REALLY lonely.

I was a bit surprised there wasn't more comraderie and chatting. So I started trying to initiate some conversations while waiting in the cheap seats and while hanging out with the *gasp* smokers. Met some nice people (wished I'd remembered this internet thingmie and traded email addresses). Met some not so friendlies, and two crazies! (I assume those two ruined many possible good conversations for me... or perhaps the look in my eyes from lack of sleep did it? *grin*)

I did have a great chat with Joanne Linville (Romulan Commander, TOS).

I wanted to chat with all of them in the "jack the prices up because these dweebs will buy anything" room. But I felt that buying something was required/appropriate. So I didn't exchange but a few quick one liners with a couple of them (I'm not an autograph hound myself).

Great group of stars in that room!

... a very long line at Quark's Sunday night. BTW, don't bother getting the Tucker Warp 5 chili unless you like it mild enough to feed to a newborn). ...

The one thing on my list I did not do was eat at Quark's and I would have been tempted to get the chili. I should have gone the night before the convention started because things were empty that night and it would have been easy to get in. After attending the Gold experience party I had no desire to go back into that place. To me, the layout is a mess and the food for the party was sub-par. I'm guessing the food from Quark's would be much better.

I met people who have attended every year that is has been held in Vegas, and never seen anything else in or around Vegas. That surprised me. How can you go that many times and never see the Grand Canyon or take a walk/ride down the strip at night and see the lights?

I'm in the cheap seats and I will be wearing a very provocative t-shirt!

It was at that. I noticed the shirt during the day before I found out who you were later on. :)

LOL. I don't think it was supposed to be hot or like a bowl of chili. It was more of chip dip thing. I liked it, though it could have used a bit more kick, so I agree somewhat. :)

O.K. Who's Wookie Is This?......

Got back last night about 7pm and slept like a log till now. Had a lot of fun, at my booth, so I probably met most of you. Good thing I started my worldwind convention tour with a trek convention, because none of my electronics in the booth was working except the robot, and the PS3 which would not play audio. It took four days to build and erect my booth, so I always had a crowd around mostly asking what I was building. Got it done on Sat but never mounted the small plasma screens, or got the graphic screens working, but we had fun and got the announcement out to the press about our school and the upcoming Lecture series we are putting together. I got to ask the last question at the voyager session with Janeway and the crew, I got so nervous I forgot Garret, and Paris's nam and could only think of their characters name but I got the question out, about their friendship onscreen and did it translate into real life.

Awww, I wish I'd seen this thread before the convention! :o We ended up not really doing much of a public Vircon Vegas meet up this year--just did a few dinners. jkladis had to be at the airport around 10:30 on Sunday night, so we weren't at Quark's that long either. I'm sorry I didn't get to meet all of you! I did get to see borg3060--looking fabulous as always!--and Biggshow briefly. I met number6 and Pensive, which was great! :D

It'll be weird to be at the Hilton without the Experience--it's been there as long as I've been going to Vegas!

I finally left STTE at 7pm Monday and got home around 3am this morning. I had lots of fun but unfortuanatly, I didn't meet anyone from trekbbs :(

A chip dip? :wtf: Mine was awfully soupy for dipping. In fact it was too soupy to be considered chili, IMO. Campbell's does a better job!

In any case, it was a 1 star on a 5 star scale. I think Connor should demand they change the name because Trip is much to hot to have bland food named after him!

I'm sure you probably did but they may not have introduced themselves as such, especially in a casual conversation. I was there til Mon. at 2:30 myself. Tall guy, beard, glasses sitting at the bar? No?...

It was great meeting you as well. As I said in the ENT Convention thread, It was a joy to put the names and faces together, especially since I haven't posted in the ENT forum in so long. I was truly flattered that you remembered some of my more "memorable" ENT threads!! Heheh.

Sad you didn't stick around and have drinks with us. Our meeting was so very brief!!

Yeah.. So was the Jambalaya.. But the Flaming Targ Ribs were awesome!!

Yeah. We told them that since the Experience was closing and they're so far from the strip, we had no reason to stay there again.

Did you know they're apparently replacing the Experience with a Michael Jackson themed theatre, just like what they have for Barry Manilow? I guess that will be something you can take the kids to.

It was a true pleasure to meet you as well.

Next time I come out to one of these events, I will make a bigger effort to reach out to my TrekBBS peeps!! It was so much fun meeting everyone!

I'm so happy now. I had a great time at the convention. I haven't laughed so much as I did both during Bob Picardo's stage time and of course the hilarious Voygar reunion. And of course, there was my photo op with me and Kate...and I got to tell her that I had lost 80 pounds and my reward was a trip to the convention and a photo with her. She was so caring in our 20 seconds of loveliness. HAHA!

Every once in a while, your fandom starts to wane a bit. It takes something to remind you of just how much you love Trek. Usually, I watch Trekkies or Trekkies 2. This time, I got to attend my first big time convention.

Wow.

Congratulations to the couple I flew home to Houston with who got married on the bridge this weekend!

Can anyone tell me about the NJ conventions? Are they worth the trip? Cause in Vegas, I also saw Cher perform...that was so amazing. For a broad in her 60s, she's still rockin!

Much love to everyone, even though I didn't get to meet you yet.

Keep on Trekkin, yall!

Chris

I met Kate at a convention in Seattle about ten years ago. It was not run by Creation, but it had a similar structure where the folks who paid a bit more for their seats to be up front got autographs, and everyone else had to pay for them. During her time speaking to the audience, she announced that she would stay until EVERYONE-- even those who didn't pay for one-- had a chance to meet her and get an autograph! She was so kind to do that, and she even complemented me on my Borg costume (it was at an earlier stage then ;-) She is a very classy lady.

Anyway, I have downloaded all my Las Vegas photos and will be posting them soon-- I'll add a link to them tomorrrow if anyone cares to see them.
