What Will TDK's Final (Domestic) Box Office Be?

A mere $1.3 million shy of Spider-Man's Third Weekend record. Pity. However, either way, it'll destroy Shrek 2's Fastest to $400 million 43-day record. Beaten by several weeks in fact. :D

No, it won't make $600 mil domestic. But it has an excellent shot at becoming only the second film ever to gross over $500 mil domestic (unadjusted).

Our theater dropped TDK down to two sceens, and it still outsold the The Mummy 3 during the evening according to people in attendance tonight at our theater.

I'm pretty sure 400 million will be no later than Tuesday. Even a 50% drop next weekend would still bring in at least another 20 million.

It's up against "Tropic Thunder" this weekend which has huge star draw and is probably second biggest comedy of the Summer (behind Get Smart) if not the first. So it's got some real competition this weekend, Mulder and Scully and Rick O'Connel offered no resistance to The Bat. But Jack Black, RDJ and Ben Stiller just might.

Once again for those not listening - this film will NOT make $600m.
I don't believe anyone said it would. See my earlier analysis of it's box office take, but I still maintain it'll take ~$525 million. The Dark Knight is definitely cooling off somewhat, and while it'll still make a fair amount over the following weeks and months, I know it won't have the legs that Titanic had.

TDK will make around $500 million though it may fall just short but wither way, its been a huge hit.

Actually, Pineapple Express comes out this weekend, however I do believe it poses a threat and should knock The Dark Knight out from the top spot. Tropic Thunder debuts two weekends from now, on August 13th.

"TITANIC" had the woman factor backing it up.

I'm sure loads of chicks went to see it, probably a number of times, because of the "romance" and shit.

"The Dark Knight" doesn't have that, so it won't be as successful. But it is and will still be a colossal hit.

I know I want to see it again but I keep procrastinating. I'd see TDK every day this week if I didn't live 20 minutes from the theater.

I'm confident it'll top 500 million, but we'll see a sharp drop in returns. I'd say the odds of it topping 600 million are near impossible.

The weekend actuals from BOM:

1. TDK - $42,664,219 for a total of $393,751,065
2. The Mummy 3 - $40,457,770

Edit to add: Also, according to Variety TDK made $6.3 million on Monday, bringing its cume to $400.1 million, which sets a new speed record to $400 million of 18 days (Shrek 2 previously held the record with 43 days).

TDK made $5,661,240 on Tuesday, bringing its total to $405,699,734, thereby overtaking Spider-Man to become the highest grossing superhero film ever in domestic box office (unadjusted).

That also places The Dark Knight in seventh place on the all time domestic unadjusted list. All in 19 days!

Zap2It had an article about it's rush to $400 and in the article, they say it's "on target to become only the second film to to pass $500 million domestically".

I just did a few quick sums and came up with TDK reaching somewhere around $440m by close of trade this Sunday.

Looks like my estimate of $525m might not be so unrealistic.

This thing is pretty friggin AMAZING.
