MLB Chatter 2008

It's unfortunate that some people were paying more attention to their booing than to what was a great game of baseball. Another example of people taking rivalries too far, which does seem to happen more often on the New York end than the Boston end.

It's not entirely their fault. After years of being on top, they've since been scarred by the 2004 collapse, and the Sox taking over the division. Hell, the Rays are even on the rise, so the Yanks are stuck with an aging, injured team in 3rd place. And because of the personalities involved, they can't even brand themselves as lovable losers. Just an aging beauty queen with her looks fading ;)

Yes, absolutely right, after a few years of not winning the World Series we're just horrible, you can call me after we suck for 80 years like you guys.

They didn't suck for 80 years (or 86 years), they just didn't win the championship. They WENT to the world series several times. Granted, they DID suck, on and off, for chunks of that time, but the Yankees (and every other team) have bleak years in their background as well. Hell, the Yankees were completely dominant in the 30s, 40s, and 50s (20 championships from 1923-1962). Only 6 since 1962, with 1996, 98, 99, and 2000 being 4 of them. There's some dry stretches in there yourself. It happens.

As for the rest of my comment, tell me that the Sox/Yankees dynamic HASN'T drastically changed since 2004. A lot of the swagger has gone out of the Yankees fans, the certaintly that the Yankees will win in the end or the Red Sox will just choke, or that every big free agent is just waiting for an offer to join the Yankees. MANY free agents over the past 8 years have come to the Yankees to get their WS ring, and walked away without one. Most of the current generation of Yankees fans grew up with dominant, winning teams (or jumped on the bandwagon in the late 90s), and aren't used to a team like they have now, where they might not make the playoffs, or they go one and done when they have over the past few years. Obviously not true in every case, but willing to bet it's true in a lot of them.

Tell me you're NOT a bit nervous when you look at the Red Sox roster (lots of young players) and stocked farm system, and then compare it to the Yankees DL list. Outside of Wong, Cano, Joba, and eventually Hughes, not a lot of young talent, and a much larger DL list. Then look at Tampa, who will probably be a thorn in both of our sides for years to come, and tell me that the Yankees aren't sliding the wrong way... :p

Why the hate for NY,there is a segment of Yankee fans a ,large one, that you can't say a thing about their blessed team. But NY are not the nastiest fans ,I hate the yankees and their bandwagon fans that chant the 26 championship mantra I'm a Met fan. At least we don't pelt people with batteries.

I hate the Phillies. They recently were voted dead last among MLB stadium hospitality in some study. I heard it on XM. It's a fact. :)

Win #10 and we back in first. Johan blew it today but King David was doing his thing. He didn`t beat Mo or Kaz in that exhibiton a couple of days ago but he managed to knock in a clutch 2 run shot to tie the game.

Time for #11 tommorow, which I won`t see because I`ll be watching the Dark Knight. Hopefully they keep it up.

Tosh! :p

I went to the (very sad) 10-9 loss vs. the Mets. Our high-rise cheap seats were in a section of maybe 40% Mets fans, and the most obnoxious person there was a 11-year old kid in a Yankees uniform cheering for the Mets. Everyone else was pretty tame. There are so many kids at baseball games I think you kind of have to behave. Now, if it was an NFL survey and they said the Eagles, I might lend it some creedence...

And hooray for Cincinnati!

And the Mets streak ends and the Phils are back in first. At least for now. The Mets went on an extremely impressive win streak, there's no doubt about it, but this division race is still going to be a bitter fight to the end.

After the Braves eat up the Nationals, I'd like to see them win at least 2 against the Marlins and avoid getting swept by the Phillies. Then, we definitely need to play the Mets again to get some guaranteed wins. ;)

RALLY MONKEY STRIKES AGAIN!!

Honestly, I feel better about the Sox losing that game than I would if I was an Angels fan and posted THAT after a win. Rally Monkey INDEED! ;)

Plus, pretty good chance we're both in the playoffs anyway. Win a few of those games against us, and then we'll talk. That record pretty much speaks for itself lately (although we appreciate you owning the Yankees in the playoffs! Shouldn't be needed this year, though...)

Fear the Awesome Power of Rally Monkey!!

;)

Agreed.

Win a few of those games against us, and then we'll talk.

So we can't talk about the series being played right now, because you beat us in the playoffs last year? That seems a bit much. I'm just going to go ahead and talk about it anyway. Feel free to ignore me.

:p

Can't argue with you there. I still remember 1986, where my hatred for the Red Sox was cemented forever. Recent series have just fueled the fire. May Dave Henderson burn in Hell!!!

:scream:

Yes, now there's something we can all enjoy!

Just saw Josh Hamilton's performence during the Home Run Derby (I've been gone for a week so I'm a little late) and wow what a entertaining show that was. Everything after that seemed irrelevent after watching him launch those balls that far. I was really hoping one would have left the ballpark.

Take a look at the standings this morning. You'd both better keep an eye out for Florida. In fact, every division but one - the AL West - has turned into a compellingly tight race. The season is barely half over, so much can change. Even so ....
