If on movie night on a starship they showed "Star Wars" (any episode), how would the crew react? Would they like it or would they just laugh at it?

I would imagine they would treat it like our own astronauts would treat "Santa Claus conquers The Martians." Kitschy fun, but obviously fantasy.

I think they'd be overwhelmed by the color and fast action since all they watch on movie nights are pre-1950 black and white movies.

Did Star Wars ever purport to be anything other than fantasy to audiences at the time of its release? As it is a fantasy set in the past, is there any reason why audiences of the future would view it very differently? Finally, with "kitsch" meaning the following according to Wikipedia...

They'd start an argument over the merrits of the classic original versions vs. the special edition versions. This heated argument would escalate to the point that it would deteriorate into a full blown riot, causing security to be called in, and half the crew thrown into the brig. Which half would depend entirely on which camp the captain fell: Special Editioner or Classicer?
It would be a 3 way argument: Original Theatrical, Special Edition, or 23rd Century Enhanced with all the aliens replaced with ACTUAL aliens!
Pretty much polar opposites. How could Star Wars be looked upon as an inferior copy of 2001?

Excellent. The serious thread continues with more serious.
First of all, I would like to state that I am a huge Star Wars fan. I love the originals, and even enjoy the prequels. That said, 2001 deals with high minded ideas about humanity, our foray into space, artificial intelligence and the sentience of man, man's future and what it can become. Star Wars also deals with high minded ideas such as man's right to govern himself instead of by a King or Emperor, how even one person can make a difference, and that life is valuable and sacred. The difference is in the execution. Star Wars is more fun and entertainment, while 2001 requires more critical thinking and self analysis (as a whole).
I like both of them, myself, but don't kid yourself about how each of them go about it.

I think you're giving Star Wars too much credit. And I say that as a fan. Still they are miles apart on most every level. Though I think the look of SW owes a little bit to 2001.

If Star Wars was played on the NXX-Enterprise I could see a scene like this playing out in the ship's theatre:
Trip: Those lightsabres are pretty cool. Wish I had one.
Reid: I bet I could make one.
Trip: What? That's impossible!
Reid: No, I could do it.
And then the B-plot to the epsiode would involve Reid trying to create a working lightsabre.
