E3 2008 - Discuss!

This is easily the worst E3 ever.

Nothing new, nothing exciting, just boringness.

I'm quite glad I haven't wasted my money on any of these systems, and I won't be anytime soon.

Well, the presentations were very boring but there are a number of games that are coming out in the coming months that should have a lot of potential. e.g. FallOut 3, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fable 2, Halo Wars.

The thing that amused me about the Sony presentation was their talk about exclusive titles and then they showed a clip of a number of games. Out of all of those games they showed, I think only 2 are exclusives. The rest will also be on the 360.

I expected to see more of Killzone 2, a little bit surprised we didn't get a Fallout type demo shown.

There was a blow out right before E3, so that's probably why.
That, and they want to push R2 since it's arriving this year.

From the console makers, sure. But that's just a small portion of E3 and the Sony/MS/Nintendo presentations have always been fairly boring. The only one I've ever found interesting was when they first showed off the Wii. It's the rest of the show that is, and always has been, the interesting bit.

Who cares! It's like people who get excited for FF sequels, they re up to 20 now and nothing new is ever added. Fall Out 1 and 2 I never heard of Fable sequel, I can play the first one for a forth of the cost of a sequel that won't be that different. And a Star Wars and Halo games?! Wow! Something new and exciting!

I wanted something new, I know MS and Sony don't do that, but I expected something rather big from Nintendo, but all they had for the Wii was 4 games, only 4 games! If MS and Sony are smart they would lower the price of their consoles more. MS could lower the price of the 20GB on to $250 and bundle it with a real game and true to steal Nintendo's spot because Nintendo isn't doing anything with the lead.

Yet only Sony feels the need to spend 5 minutes talking about it.

the nintendo one was piss poor, just more shitty party games and new accessory to buy

sony one was not great, lots of games on other platforms, to none gamers it looked like you could only play this on ps3

And anyway, given that everyone has their own events now, I don't think I was expecting anything major.

Oh, one thing is the move from the 40 to 80. I wonder if that means the new 80s won't have PS2 backwards compatibility?

Fallout 3 is a totally different type of game to the other Fallout games. A lot of sequels build on previous games, so usually aren't the same game, only cash-ins and shovel-ware tends to be the same game again and again.

Personally, I think this is the best generation in a long time. Tons of worthwhile games. But I guess since you haven't played any, you wouldn't know.

yeah that what it sounded like, the 40 gig is being killed off and replaced with 80 gig with all the "functionality" of the 40 gig" so its a 40 gig model with a bigger hard drive that everyone upgrades to at least 160 gig drive anyway

Wolfenstein was announced via a Game Informer cover.
One thing I don't get is that now that id is with EA, does that mean Activision owns former id IPs?

The HDD dance/penis waving between Microsoft and Sony is the most idiotic thing I've ever seen (aside from WiiMusic). The average gamer doesn't care whether they're getting 20GB, 40GB or 60GB HDDs in their machine as long as the thing plays the freaking games.

I applaud Sony for consolidating their lines and getting what looks like one SKU out there (unless I misread their intentions) at a good price and making Microsoft look like they're gouging like mad on the 360 (which they are, no matter how you look at it). Microsoft needs a REAL price drop to $299 pronto--for $50 more than they're charging for the 60GB 360 SKU, you can get a PS3 that plays a lot of the same games AND plays Blu-Ray discs on top of that.

I just had to proofread that a dozen times to make sure I got all the SKUs and pricing correct, which should give an indication of how all this HDD, BC/no-BC, HDMI/no-HDMI must look to someone who's not that into gaming.

What was funny was that they got developers to talk about how awesome it is to have a hard drive on the PS3...
Of course, right at the beginning Tretton admitted that all the exclusive DLC is going to the 360.
