Fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" Movie...

First one was a lot of fun. Second was a nearly unwatchable mess. So much so that I never bothered with the third.

Heck even the writers admitted in the extras for 2 that they'd never even considered doing a second or third film and only wrote the scripts for the fat paychecks.

I'd pass on #4 thanks.

I think you misunderstood them.
They said that there were no plans initially to make more than one movie. It was only after the first film became such a success that it was decided to make two more films.

Bingo. But at the same time, they were opened to the possibility of doing more, which is why they slipped in the "Curse of the Black Pearl" subtitle. Just in case.

3 years away, so I'll try not to prejudge it, especially as there is no plot or cast. Hopefully it will involve a all women pirate ship where the captain only allows ladies with super model looks to serve on the vessel and because of her strict dress code they have to be naked, lest they get those unsightly tan lines from there clothing. I'd go see that.

And Depp will only do it if the script is good and I trust his judgment.
I dunno. He did make all three existing Pirates movies.
I'll cut Depp some slack on the first one. It was enjoyable and I can only imagine how much fun he pictured the character in his minds eye as he read.

However the two sequels were purely mediocre to rubbish and he took the payday on those two.

Dead Man's Chest is not so bad since everything fell into place by the end, only to be mainly left by wayside in At World's End, with Captain Jack, Lord Beckett and Davy Jones being under used, and 'Oolundo Bland' being given more screentime and Chow Yun Fat being wheeled out for almost no reason. The franchise was expanded well enough in Dead Man's Chest but was going up it's own backside come the third movie (I'm puzzled why people prefer AWE, even though most of it is mediocre).

I wouldn't mind a fourth installment -- but first, dear Gods, two conditions:

1. PLEASE have something of a coherent storyline in mind before TPTB start filming it!!

2. If you're going to throw in a motherlode of nautical lore, again, have it make sense. Kind of goes with #1, really.

(By the end of the DMC/AWE combo, it felt particularly forced. Although I did like the Green Flash part. But then, that's probably just nostalgia from actually seeing it in RL.)

Cheers,

I could understand what was going on, but it was way too drawn out and the double-triple-quardruple crossing from the main characters was becoming wearisome. Not quite as terrible and fruitless as sequels to The Matrix though, but the makers did bite off more than they could chew by making PotC overly epic.

I'm not sure we really need another one. I enjoyed them but I feel the story is really over and there's nothing i'd like to see followed up on.
