Am I the only one who thinks that episode is a little creepy? I mean what exactly was Ruth? An android? Well Kirk was able to hurt Finnegan so probably not. A real human they just whipped up in the lab? Hmmm

Does it really matter what exactly she was? In the end she was merely an illusion. An illusion created to pleasure Kirk. I don't find this episode to be creepy at all. It's a nice opportunity to look inside the secret longings and feelings of the Enterprise crew. Plus it has one of the most beautiful TOS scores by Gerald Fried.

She was "the older woman" in his life. Probably from his academy days, like Finnegan. Thoughts of one led to the other.
