So THAT'S why half of my old school wants to move to Florida!

Hellova a deal if you were thinking about getting a 360.

Unless you care about Blu-Ray. They're unloading the old models before they're updated.

Rumor is they'll be announced this Friday, though goodness knows when they'll ship.

Anyway, I suspect that's the reason for the low prices.

I can only imagine that the price discount is due to either the economy or a new model coming out.
Hi.

??? Where have you heard that? I can't find any articles that even mention the subject that are more recent than Feb-March, and all of them are simply "rumours that won't go away" stories with official denials and a whole lot of reasons why it's not a good idea and doesn't make sense.

There are two rumours.
One is that MS is burning off the 20GB models to introduce a 60GB model. Similar to what Sony did last year with the transition from the 20/60 models to the 40/80 models.
The other is that MS is going to allow third party companies to make "premium" 360 consoles. Toshiba and Samsung are rumoured to have 360s with built in Blu-Ray drives, for example.

Man, I'll be really annoyed if they put out a Blu-ray 360 this year, after having just bought an Elite a couple months ago. :scream: :p

Of the two rumours, that's probably the least likely. I'm not sure what Microsoft or Toshiba would gain by doing a Blu-Ray 360... not to mention some of the problems with firmware updates and compatibility that would introduce.

That said, I'd bet a million dollars that a Toshiba 360 would NEVER red ring.

Well, I have heard the second rumour, but I'm not sure how well it would go over to have to cater to two different software mediums. You may see BluRay enabled 360s, I'm just not sure you'll see any games that take advantage of it. Any games that did would have to be released on multiple DVDs.

Could you imagine a five or eight disc DVD set for MGS4? I'd prefer those days to be over.

But if they decide to go that route, more power to them. As long as they continue to release all games for both DVD and BR.

MS would never sell games on BD-ROM. Those boxes would only cater to people who want an all in one box that plays movies, does IPTV and maybe can be used as a PVR.

Ok Just to clarify.

1. The RROD problem was fix last fall so that is no longer an issue.

2. there are rumors that a new 60gig XBox 360 is coming out and that may or may not be the reason for the $50.00 price drop.

3. M$ has debunked all the rumors about a 360 with built in Blu-Ray.
Personally it would be stupid to place blu-ray in this Gen of console since the next, next gen consoles are rumored to be out in 2010.
If M$ were smart they would released another add-on like they did with the HD DVD add on.
BLU-Ray won the battle so M$ should roll with the flow and let people choose for themselves if the want it or not.

4. It always kills me how people feel "ripped-off" when a company (any company) betters their product and someone just bought the older model.
Be a smart consumer and read up on "ANYTHING" you want to buy before you buy it.
There is this wonderful thing called the internet (maybe you've heard of it) just full of all kinds of information on just about every product known to man.

Those same people bitch when companies never try to improve a product.

No longer an issue? Except for the 15 million-plus people who bought Xbox 360s before Fall 2007, you mean? These people account for the majority of the console's worldwide install base of 25mil and are thus sitting on time bombs.

Besides, I refuse to believe that hardware issues will ever go away on the 360. If it's not the RRoD, it'll be a GPU failure, or the disc tray geting jammed, or discs getting scratched for no apparent reason. I've had two of the above and though I've not yet had the RRoD, I know it's coming.

Not good enough.

And yet neither me nor the half-dozen or so friends I have with 360s have ever had the RRoD, and statistically the majority of owners will never have any hardware problems within the normal lifespan of the console.

I can guarantee that a lot of problems people have with their 360s is due to the way they treat them. I'm well aware that the RRoD is a manufacturer's issue and I'm not excusing that, and the 360 might very well be a very finnicky machine, but I've seen the way too many people treat their electronics to ignore the possibility that someone is just a dumbass who left his 360 on the carpet with a pizza box on top if it for three straight days before it bonked.

On a side note (and honestly not trying to hate on the PS3), but the WiFi on my friend's 360 won't work correctly, it keeps dropping the connection on him every 10-20 minutes. Tried a different PS3 and it works fine, so it's definitely his hardware. Sony has been no help and claims the issue is with his internet connection and won't look at it without making him pay mucho $$$ up front (it's not under warranty anymore). He has spent several hours chasing their 800 agents and email lines. Anyone heard of a similar problem or a way to fix it?

Ahh, yes. 'My friends haven't had any problems, so therefore they don't exist.'

Statistically...we don't know what the statistics are, though independent research has put the figure at around 30%. Which is, umm, a bit too high.

What a load of crap. I'm obsessive about the condition of my electronics, nearly to the point of OCD. My Xbox 360 sits on a stable surface, half-metre above the ground, with plenty of breathing room around the console and the power brick. It's never bumped and I never, ever, change its orientation.

And yet it still chews my discs to buggery and dies for no apparent reason.

I agree that some people agitate the machine by treating it poorly, but make no mistake: Microsoft dropped the ball here. The Xbox 360's failure rate - by comparison to any other console in history - is astronomical. People don't treat their 360s any different than they treated their PS3s, Dreamcasts, PS1s, PS2s, SNES', Mega Drives, or whatever. Yet still they die by the truckload. There's nobody to blame here but Microsoft, and they said so themselves.

Signs point to the 60GB option as being the one is going to be rolled out, not Blu-Ray.

Additional rumour is that the 60GB standalone will be 99 dollars and the 120 will drop to 149.99.
Still pricey though.

Same here.
I bought mine October 2006 and have never had a problem.
I have 6 friends that bought them 3-4 months before me and they have never had a problem.

I do know there was a RROD problem but I think it was way over exaggerated.

I've never had a problem with my first generation 360. But everyone else I know with 360s except for one has had big problems. But since I've never personally seen it happen, it guess it doesn't exist.

I dropped a 320GB HDD into my PS3. Total price including shipping? $130. Go Microsoft. :wtf:

The bigger issue is why they seem to be phasing out the 20GB instead of the tard pack, which apparently will be on the new list of SKUs. The 20GB should be replacing the tard pack so that all new 360s going forward will have HDDs. What's the cost of a 20GB HDD for Microsoft--about $5 or so?
