MLB Chatter 2008

How is it that the Rays have the same number of players in the All-Star Game as the Giants? Not that I'm saying that the two Giants players are bad (two of the top pitchers in the NL), but considering where each team is in their respective division, surely Tampa Bay's success warrants a couple more players on the AL roster.

The Braves/Astros game went a full 17 innings yesterday. I left after 9, watched Wall-E, ate dinner, and the game was still going on.

Chipper Jones on fucking fire last night! 3 for 5 with a triple, a home run, and FOUR walks! :D

He might actually be a great help to the Yankees... Last year we saw that Bonds can still hit the ball

I really don't think signing Bonds would make anyone think less of the Yankees than they already do.

I'd be surprised if the Yankees could really do much to get into the playoffs. Bonds would just be a waste of a salary, to be honest.

I hate Billy Wagner with a passion. I hate Wagner more then Reggie Miller, Chipper Jones, Jimmy Rollins, John Rocker, Pat Burrell, and Tom Glavine. I despise Billy Wagner and I want that sad sack of shit neutered and beaten with a whip, and this is after he just saved a game against the Phillies.

I also want instant replay in Baseball now, and I want the umps to stop screwing the Mets with these bullshit home run calls. How come they give every other team the bullshit call but when a Met hits it, they revese it. Fuck the Umps and I hate Wagner. I can`t wait till we get K-Rod and we finally get a closer who can have a nice boring 9th inning.

I hate Billy Wagner too, but for entirely different reasons.

I was at that game. It was sorely tempting to leave after the third inning, but I'm glad we stuck around because it turned rather interesting at the end. Tough to lose after nearly coming back.

So, who will the Yankees try to trade for to get themselves into the playoffs?

Apparently, GM Brian Cashman is getting his way and trying to use home grown prospects instead of spending a fortune on hired guns:

The Yankees made a strong statement Monday by not doing anything. A player they wanted — a left-handed starter in the prime of his career who could have helped lift them in the standings — was traded to another team. And the Yankees let it happen.

C. C. Sabathia thus joins Johan Santana and Eric Gagné as temptations that Brian Cashman resisted, all in the name of repairing the Yankees’ foundation. Cashman, the general manager, told the Cleveland Indians last week that he would not part with the package of top pitching and position prospects it would take to get Sabathia.

(snip)

For now, though, Cashman is holding tightly to prospects as he tries to wean the Yankees from years of forced reliance on expensive veterans. The result is showing up this season, with an offense that includes four players who are 34 or older and whose best position is designated hitter — Johnny Damon, Jason Giambi, Hideki Matsui and Jorge Posada.

(snip)

“We try to compete and at the same time build some inventory and get it back in line, and fill in with the occasional trade or free-agent signing if it makes sense. But it all takes time.”

Between Sabathia to the Brewers and Harden to the Cubs, shit just got serious in the NL Central.

Once I saw that deal had been pulled off, I wondered what you'd say. Mid-season trades are always intriguing, especially when it involves players swapping leagues. Pitchers, in particular. It follows that most of the new league's hitters won't have seen that pitcher's stuff.

Yes it did and I wanna see what the Cards do to try and counter it. The Cubs are gonna regret trading for Harden cause I can see him going on the DL in a month. Billy Beane ain`t trading him if he is healthy and will go the rest of the season with out a problem because he is under club control till 2010 I believe.

Metsblog is reporting that the Indians called the Mets and told Omar that he had the pieces to get Sabathia and Omar declined. I`m actually glad that Omar said no to Sabathia because I don`t wanna trade whats left of the farm for a rental. Now if we were able to sign him for 4 years then I would be saying something different cause we could move Ollie Perez now. Of course I feel sorry for whoever signs him for 5 or more years cause he looks like hes gonna get real fat really quick.

Speaking of Los Mets and our wonderful pitching staff, Mike Pelfy outpitched Tim Linecum tonight and our pitching has been lights out lately, especially on July 4th when Johan did his thing in that little league park Philly calls home. Too bad Jerry had a Willie moment and took him out in the 9th, cause we woulda swept and would be in first right now instead of 1 game back.

The rigged all star game voting is still going on and the League`s anti NY Bias defiently shows. D Wright, Jose Reyes and Johan Santana`s numbers this year are more then enough to get them in the game but Los Mets are getting screwed. At least they will get a nice vacation and hopefully stay fresh. That said its still a crime that Miguel Tejada made it over Jose Reyes.
