RICHMOND, Va. - Imprisoned quarterback Michael Vick filed for bankruptcy protection while serving time for federal dogfighting charges, saying he owes between US$10 million and $50 million to creditors.

Vick filed Chapter 11 papers in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Newport News on Monday. The seven largest creditors listed in the court papers are owed a total of about $12.8 million.

Vick is serving a 23-month prison sentence at the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kan., after pleading guilty last year to bankrolling a dogfighting ring. He was subsequently suspended indefinitely without pay and lost all his major sponsors, including Nike. He also faces state charges related to dogfighting.

Man, to go from having it all to filing for bankruptcy protection from jail is just astounding. And over what, dog fighting. Idiot.

You'd hope that this would serve as a warning to other NFL players, but after yet another off season of embarassments and arrests, it just doesn't seem they're getting the message.

I wonder if any teams will take a flyer out on him once he's released?

I wouldn't be suprised if he actually was too stupid to park his money out of reach of the IRS, but anyway: good riddance you fucking idiot!

I'm trying to feel bad for him, I really am. I even tried to pull a nose hair to produce tears. But it simply isn't happening.

I don't know, if there's a team desperate enough for a good quarterback, he could make a come back. There's certainly enough players with baggage running around, and I know the Broncos and Shanahan give many of them second, third, and fourth chances.

I think he'll be back in the NFL eventually.
I doubt it... When he is released from jail, he will be too old to make it worth a franchises value to reorganize their team to work with the diminished talent he would have. Vick was a special athlete, but for him to prosper, the team has to work a certain way... And retooling your franchise for 1 or 2 years of a circus show... Doubtful any NFL team would do it

I will say that I don't think Vick should be in jail. As for his declaring bankruptcy, I think it's a laughable situation. Once he is out of jail, he will within months have more wealth than the average American working a 9 to 5 job.

give the Mastermind more credit than that. ;)

I can't see any team taking him.

Raiders? Bengals?

He'd fit in with either of them just fine.

;)

Someone will pick him up eventually. I'm sure of it.

SOmebody will take a chance on him

Hell if OJ could still run, someone would pick him up too.

He wouldn't have time, what with his search for the real killers and all
