You know it.

When the Trek XI Forum started, I had my doubts. JJ's penchant for secrecy would seemingly undermine any viable points of debate, and render the XI forum a barren wilderness. I was literally expecting tumbleweeds.

But I underestimated the wily denizens of the Trek BBS. I'll never make that mistake again. Between the sombrero phenomenon, the SHOUTING SPOCK thread, and debates over whether Kirk will rip his shirt or not, this forum has unequivocably responded to Abrams' pathological desire for uber-secrecy with a veritable cornucopia of disinformation, non-sequiturs and general snarkiness of a quality and sheer badassery that the world is not likely to witness again in our lifetimes. In short, this forum kicks ass.

So, I raise my glass to you, Trek XI forum, for ignoring the fact that there is absolutely nothing of any substance to discuss on topic, and instead choosing to guide us all into a blissful nirvana of absurdity and yes, awesomeness, and on a personal note, for providing me with an endless array of excuses for avoiding anything remotely resembling "productivity" during the workday.

Discuss.

Much of the fun of anything is enjoying the anticipation of looking forward to it. That's what this forum does, so hats (including sombreros) off to it!

Love it.

Seldom has so much been written about so little.
'Tis the truth. I hung out here when the forum was first established, got quickly bored, and since then have only dabbled here. Often this forum is pretty funny, for sure, but it's sort of like eating cotton candy. There's not a lot of substance.

No doubt. It's the "Michael Bay" of the Trek BBS forums. At least until there's some actual, you know, stuff to talk about. (And when that happens there will probably be a fair number of us yearning for the "good ol' days" of sombreros and Shouting Spock.)

This forum kicks all KINDS of ass. And I am happy to be a part of it.

Traditionally, the 'current Trek' forum is one of the most miserable places on the board - especially for a mod. And in truth, until this film got put off, that was the direction this forum was taking as well.

But when the film got put off, something happened in here. I think most people just decided to relax and have fun with it. In the words of our first runner-up forum slogan winner, most people promptly dedicated themselves to the idea of 'wasting time until May 2009'.

And folks....what we have discovered is that we are kick-ass AWESOME at wasting time. I mean, we are REALLY, REALLY good.

Never have I seen a group of people do so well at wasting such vast quantities of time together as to actually bond over that very fact and turn it into a whole new mission for the forum.

Before this movie got put off, I was handing out a half-dozen warnings a week. Since this movie got put off, I have handed out less than that in total, and couldn't be happier.

Now, I know that as the movie draws closer, we will get our share of trolls, whiners, and random individuals who are intent upon sucking the joy out of life in here.

But you guys who have made the difference in here? Who have been using your energies over the past several weeks in an effort to make this forum FUN (I mean, that should be the point of all of this, right?). It is you guys who can determine to set the tone in here from now on...and set it at 'fun'.

Remember - there is not a whiner or troll on earth who can ruin a forum, if the regulars in that forum set the tone and stick with it...and don't let the whiners and trolls sway them from the goal of sticking together, refusing to take ourselves too seriously, and keeping it fun.

And I say this from experience, because it is what we have been all about in the DS9 forum for as long as I've been on this board, and it has worked in there, even back in the more controversial early days.

The mods can't do it. We are only the police. It's you guys who have been stepping up to the plate and becoming the defacto leaders of this forum who have made the difference - who have set the tone on 'FUN'.

We have seen the result when this forum is set on confrontationalism and an insistence on taking this film...and ourselves, WAY too seriously. And we have seen the result when this forum is set on a desire to use our energies, and our considerable talents, it turns out, on having fun.

And me? I'm voting for continuing the fun. :p

Akiraprise and I passed out more warnings in this forum in the last few months of 2007 than we have passed out in about 8 accumulated years of modding in DS9 and VOY combined. And I think I can speak for him when I tell you guys that we like it this way ALOT better.

So carry on. :techman:

Cogley is in charge. :D

We can do the innuendo
We can dance and sing
When its said and done we havent told you a thing
We all know that crap is king
Give us dirty laundry!...uh I mean more sombreroes!

Wow, it's like a whole pep rally condensed into a single post. You can almost taste the pom-poms.

Well, it was either humour or cannibalism.

The forum would have ate itself without something for us to write about... :D

Mmmmmm...licking a cheerleader's big, round, luscious pom-poms.

Yes, you can speak for me in this matter. :techman:
Everything PKTrekGirl posted is true. I hope this forum can continue to be the fun place it has become as we get closer to May 2009. Just so it's not a surprise: The Enterprise will look different, the bridge will not be the same as the 60s version, and Shatner will not be portraying Kirk.

Change is good. Maybe that should have been our forum motto.
