    Thanks very much guys. :)

aridas sofia, you and me, sounds like we kinda ride the same wave-length eh.

And while I love Star Wars and it's uber-utilitarian detail encrusted ship designs (which I have built a couple myself), I don't want to see E as you so accurately put it: Star Wars-ified.

What's the point? Copy that which already exists, and of a completely different style to boot? That's not the heart of creativity IMO. And there's a reason Matt's E is as iconic as it is. Why bin that proven design style?

But, IDIC eh. What others do is cool by me eh, as I'll just keep at doing what I like to see done eh. It's all good. :)

Yeah, I agree. It's all good. I'm actually interested in seeing what somebody starting the whole thing over will come up with. However, I also wish somebody would do one as if it was Jefferies, only with loads of bucks. If for no other reason than to show all the 1960s design bashers that there is a big difference between the inherent quality of a design and the way the design ends up looking on film because of SFX limitations.

Indeed, I'm stoked about new old Trek eh. Even if I have some new E concerns. Still, I'll love it because it is Star Trek, as well, I love Star Trek, and as I have a saying for myself: Even bad Trek (ala Spock's Brain, The Way To Eden, The Apple...) is good Trek.

As to the Jefferies' design, well, that's what I'm kinda sorta tryin' to do with my E, if only in my own mind.

A while back, Vektor did some 3D illustrations of a cosmetically redone NCC-1701 Enterprise that did something similar with the spherical aft nacelle caps, (SANCs?) but Vektor's did not incorporate the leaking of internal lighting as you have. Vektor did make some changes to the Enterprise's lines and shapes, but kept the overall ship the same as in TOS.

It would be very interesting to see both Vektor's images and yours, side-by-side.

One minor detail that I really appreciate about your images: I like how you've kept the original TOS-style Starfleet "boomerang" pennant. That's one thing I was sad to see absent from TMP on.

    Nice work!

    Thanks dude. :)

Yeah, I wanted to keep her make-up the same (other than changing the font) along with her overall profile.

    Phase 7_Detailing_Main Hull

Modeled grid on top and bottom of saucer and added some detail to the impulse collector... (can't recall what the rail in front of the impulse engines is called...)

Closer look at the impulse rig, and the addition of eight attitude thruster 3-packs to the top and bottom edges on the saucer...

Deg, your detailing is incredible! You have given the impulse forward detail (nurnie/rail) some "character" that was lacking on the original design, with all due respect to Matt J. It's welcome candy to my eyes.....well done, sir.

(p.s. she's a beauty... at least what I can make out of her ;))

Wow, that is really fantastic. I hate to repeat things, but your nacelle concept and detail are perfect; my new favorite design for this area, something that refines Jefferies original spinning lights without "trashing it"..
and to me it has that mysterious element that...well it looks functional, that something is working there, and not just "army tank parts and bits glued on".

    Awsome.

Hey, and great to see ya Prof! :)

    Phase 7_Detailing_Main Hull

Saucer detailing continues. About all that is left to model is to update the whole command module area, the lower sensor array and the dish, and most probably some other odd-and-ends here and there that I'll decide on as I go, secondary hull phaser banks and retros for two...

Very nice, deg3D... I think you've honoured the original design with this cool detailing. What would we see if you zoomed us in very close to the hull? Would there be visible hull plating? Are you going to do any interior modelling?

Great work! Maybe they should've done this with TOS remastered.

One small request: the hull lettering atop the saucer is nice, but it could use a little TOS touch... instead of the ship name letters paralleling the registry, why not arch the ship name up toward the bridge in the middle?

The hull plating is modeled in Patrickivan, so yes you would see it. More interiors? No plans, but well see... :)

Sorry Wingsley, I never really liked the way they had the ship name graphically laid out in TOS (and was glad they redid it come the films). I never liked the way that straight perpendicular line of type stopped "the esthetic line flow" of the overall design, like a wall up in front, effectively killing the forward-moving sleekness for me. (It was all I could do to keep the ventral registers perpendicular, but TOS.5 E needs them that way on both sides IMO eh.) As to the dorsal registers, I tried a bunch of different styles, and this is the one I like the best. As it is, this is my own personal vision project of E, acting as my own art director on it, so the decision goes the way of the art director eh. I'll at least consider the idea further though... ;)

The saucer lower sensor array is done. Reduced the amount of panel lines on the bottom of the secondary hull and also added secondary hull phaser banks and retros...

Closin' in on the modeling being done, just a few straggler details to do, grooves in shuttlebay doors, etc., then the painting begins...

Thanks very much dude, glad ya like 'er. :)

Phase 10_Forward Sensor Dish and Hanger Door(s) Grooves

Well that'll do 'er for the modeling phase. Did a bunch of invisible house-cleaning chores in prep for painting too, gotta keep it tidy eh. Added some other misc. detail here-and-there to suit. Also toned down the color(s) of the shuttlebay and binned the blue side wall running lights and back-wall interior booth graphics. All renders are updated at the "on the bench..." link on my website front-page if interested.

    Phase 12_Painting and Some Fun

Still finishing up the secondary hull paint-job and some other odds and ends, but had some fun doing a quickie (will redo it later when E is finished) recreate of one of my all-time fav Trek shots...

    Sweet Lord... That's gorgeous.

Your ship in orbit of a planet at 1680x1050 would be an AWESOME wallpaper. :bolian:
