Trip & T'Pol: The Good That They Do

Re: Trip & T'Pol: The Good That They Do

breaking the ice is filled with so much.
including subtle little things like the vulcans have almost given up exploration just for the sense of exploration.
there is a sense of arrogance that they have nothing new to learn about certain things and we learn it is costing them because the comet had a rare mineral highly valued by vulcans.
Yes. I think it was a compelling idea, having Vulcans in this era who were having their own issues with arrogance and stagnation and corruption, and who needed to go through their own growing pains. You see leftover remnants of this attitude in some TOS Vulcans--T'Pau still looking down her nose at humans, for instance--but also they had once again embraced the idea of exploration and curiosity being good things. The Kir'Shara, perhaps?

probably and just getting rid of the romulan influence with the over throw
of vlas and other like him.
if one thinks about it it would benefit the romulans to keep the vulcans from exploration and not looking at things to closely.

as for how tpau reacted to tpol. to me her reactions shifted as the they journeyd across the forge.
and even in amok time one wonders if her first reactions were more for formality what was expected of her.because pretty quickly she changed her tune and was complimenting spock on his choice of friends.

These pictures are gorgeous, but they sort of solidify a question that has been wandering around my brain. I've been watching season one the last few nights. T'Pol looks so much harsher and less pretty than in these pics from season three. I know it has something to do with that awful wig but obviously it's the make-up as well. I'm wondering if either Jolene or the make-up artists have ever discussed the difference in the looks.
One could argue that T'Pol's remote, ice-queen beauty of the first two seasons is appropriate, since she is Vulcan, after all, and not especially interested in assimilating with the humans. And every so often, she does manage to look really striking--probably the lighting and camera angles made a difference, as well as makeup.

For Season 3, T'Pol got a makeover to reflect the change in direction of the show--longer hair, different costumes. startrek.com refers to it as a "slightly more casual look." According to several posts I have read by fans (and if anyone knows an official source, feel free to chime in), Jolene and her makeup artist were behind the reshaping of T'Pol's eyebrows to look more Vulcan.

I don't know who is responsible for the eyebrow thing, but thank heavens for that! Ugh, I hated the first two seasons' eyebrows... they were so distinctly unVulcan!

Ooooh, pretties left for us in the dark of night by our own personal pixie star! Thanks, hon! :D

Yeah, when I first tuned into the Season 1 eps, I was all, what's with the eyebrows? Whose lame idea was that? No decent explanation. Some bozo in a suit made the decision (canon? we don' need no stinkin' canon), and ya gotta just shrug it off as a genetic aberration and go with it.

I remember when I first saw Star Trek II, and Saavik's striking (but noticeably non-Vulcan) eyebrows. :wtf: Then I read the book, and oh, okay, she's half Romulan. No, waitaminute. Romulans have upswept, pointy eyebrows too! What the...? Then I just gave up and got on board and enjoyed the movie, because Kirstie Alley's eyebrows were so damn gorgeous, and she had the Spockian arched eyebrow down cold.

So, star, you delurk for Soval too, eh? Hmm, looks like I'll have to dig up that Soval thread to lure you out again, mwahaha...

Re: Trip & T'Pol: The Good That They Do

Count me in the minority that never noticed the eyebrows. Guess something else was drawing my attention.

Re: Trip & T'Pol: The Good That They Do

^love your av!

I noticed...between the eyebrows and the carpet catsuit...

***strolls in for a sec and delurks***

Hi star! Thanks for the MU avatars. Gorgeous!

Meanwhile, I hated T'Pol's look during the first two seasons. Between the suit, the eyebrows, and the plot-lines, I wouldn't have watched the show at all if I didn't know what was coming on S3.

Re: Trip & T'Pol: The Good That They Do

Hi Star & Tennisgirl. I have to agree I didn't care for T'Pol's look in the first 2 seasons. It was her uniform. Her ugly brown uniform she wore.I'm glad that in seaon 3 she got new outfits and she looked so much better in them.

Re: Trip & T'Pol: The Good That They Do

Waves Hello Star, :) I like your MU avtars and Hopeful Romantic and trippy's as well. Could we have some Bound pictures Where Trip & T'Pol are at the end of the show. please thank you.

Re: Trip & T'Pol: The Good That They Do

You mean the Star Wars Empire Strikes Back moment?

One of my fave TnT scenes :techman: So I second the request :D

Re: Trip & T'Pol: The Good That They Do

Trip and T'Pol at the end of "Bound" = Han and Leia in TESB?..."I love you." "I know." That moment? It does kind of fit...without the carbon freezing, of course...

Re: Trip & T'Pol: The Good That They Do

No...the part when Han was "leaving Hoth"...talking to Leia in the "south passage" where she expressed her "true feelings"

ETA: Dialogue

Leia: Han!
Han Solo: Yes, Your Highnessness?
Leia: I thought you had decided to stay.
Han Solo: Well the bounty hunter we ran into in Ord Mantell changed my mind.
Leia: Han, we need you!
Han Solo: We need?
Leia: Yes.
Han Solo: Well, what about you need?
Leia: I need? I don't know what you're talking about.
Han Solo: You probably don't.
Leia: And what precisely am I supposed to know?
Han Solo: Come on! You want me to stay because of the way you feel about me.
Leia: Yes! You're a great help to us, you're a natural leader.
Han Solo: No! That's not it. Come on... [Points at himself] A-ha! Come on!
Leia: You're imagining things.
Han Solo: Am I? Then why are you following me? Afraid I was gonna leave without giving you a goodbye kiss?
Leia: I'd just as soon kiss a Wookiee!
Han Solo: I can arrange that. [Angrily storms down the hallway] You could use a good kiss!

Yes that end scene in Bound reminds me of the Empire Strikes back that's my favorite scene from that movie.;)One many Han Leia scenes from that movie actually.:rommie:

Re: Trip & T'Pol: The Good That They Do

Ah, I stand corrected. Han was always so much more...forthright with Leia. Trip didn't ever act like a selfish smartass with T'Pol until that last scene in "Bound," which is why I was thinking...

T'Pol: "I want you back" = Leia: "I love you"
4x17_886x75.jpg

Trip: "I'll think about it" = Han: "I know"
4x17_891x75.jpg

(take 2)

*big wet kiss by T'Pol* = "I said, I love you"
4x17_917x75.jpg

Trip: "Three days ago, I told Captain Hernandez I wanted a transfer back to Enterprise" = "I just wanted to hear you grovel before I told you"
4x17_937x75.jpg

You get my point. Very Han-like (to me, anyway). For dialogue, I prefer the convo before the "Harbinger" kiss. Trip kissed her back in that one, too. But hey, there were so few of these, you take what you can get. :p

Ah well finally made her fess up she wanted him back; I never liked that she was the one calling the shots; I mean you knew Trip cared for Tpol just she wanted everything to stay on professional level even when she got jealous in Harbinger. So was nice to see her wanting Trip back. :)

Re: Trip & T'Pol: The Good That They Do

Speaking of pretty kisses...

Sure, post my favorite scene in the entire show, why dontcha?

Ah, that kiss. To me that was T'Pol's "I love you" to Trip... But hey, that conversation in Bound was pretty amusing. The kiss is Home was so bittersweet, way bitter than sweet...

I shall leave now before HR lures me in here again with another of those pics of hers.
