MLB Chatter 2008

Craig Hansen is officially the new Eric Gagne. The Sox are definitely in need of another mid-reliever as Okajima and Delcarmen are spent. Aardsma and Lopez aren't too hot either.

They should also get rid of Julio Lugo while they're at it.

Fortunately, I doubt the Rays will have enough gas to make it past August.

Good Lord I am glad I was not home to watch that game, cause it got ugly fast.

Hansen is so infuriating...just when you think he has figured it out, he sucks it up big time. I mean that game was absolute bullshit, there is no excuse for that...ever.

Hopefully they will make up for it by having a good series in the Bronx. Lester tomorrow night needs to go deep into the game for them to have a chance in the series cause the bullpen is absolutely shot right now.

I don't know.... that's two series they've swept from the Red Sox, now. Granted both were in Florida, but there were all kinds of wins in those games. Injuries will likely be the key factor here, mostly because I'm not so sure how deep the Rays are compared to the Sox.

Just the fact that the Rays were able to come back and win last night makes them a ligit team. I hope they are successful down the stretch. I would be fun to see the Rays in the Playoffs.

The thing is, I believe that the Rays will be in the mix until the end of the year, but I think that they will fall off. They are a young team, who have never experienced the heat of a playoff drive in the dog days of summer. Also, even in the post season, there are no certainties. Look at last years ALCS. Everyone raved about the 1-2 the Indians had of Sabathia and Carmona, and both sucked during the series. Personally I think that will hurt them this year, compared to teams like the Red Sox and the Yankees. In the long run though, it will help them because in the next few years they will be force to be reckoned with.

I don't know why, but I have a funny feeling that the Sox and Yanks will be the two teams out of the AL East... again

I would love to see the Rays out there, but the Yankees will spend whatever they ahve to bring in a quality player / pitcher... and the 'sox are a better team

Technically, yes. My point is that last year to think that the Rays could win 2 games, let alone 2 series would have earned you a one way trip to the nearest asylum. Now they not only have won 2 series, they've swept them. And in good, solid fashion. as in no fluke. To be even in this regard, not ahead but just being even is impressive. Whatever it is that's different, the Rays ought to bottle it, because they've gone toe-to-toe with probably the majors' best team and not even blinked. On top of that, the Rays have something like a 50 game differential over where they finished last season.

It's going to be war the rest of the season, and every baseball fan ought to be excited about that.

The Rays are doing well which is a sign that the end is closer than we all realize. I still can't believe that the Rays are the best team.... in.... baseball.... *falls over dead*

True, true. Everyone knew that TB would eventually be a very good team, seeing as how their farm system is absolutely stacked. I just don't think everyone thought it would happen this fast, including myself. Im just saying, as good as they are, they have no stretch run experience nor post season experience, because they were never good enough to get their before. This year and the next few will be important to them, so they can gain experience, and learn how to deal with the pressures of a playoff drive.

Just when the Sox piss me off to no end, they have a night like tonight in the Bronx.

Jon Lester with a complete game 5 hit shut out, and the Sox win 7-0. They are like night and day.

 - I thought the same thing when I saw last night's scores!

Damn, the Marlins and the Rockies are really going at it tonight. Currently 17-12 in the bottom of the 7th. I will be very amused (and happy since he's on my fantasy team) if Scott Olsen gets the win despite giving up 9 runs (8 of them earned).

17-16 now.

I saw when it was 5-1 in the first, but I couldn't imagine that.

The Phils beat the Mets, so they're hopefully back on the right track. The new guy (drawing a blank on the name) at least pitched decently for 5 innings. Not really a replacement for Myers, but can hopefully hold on until Myers does better.

Now I just need the Rockies to add a couple more runs to that insane score and beat the Fish.

After watching the Yanks the last few days, when was the last time that team was this....pathetic. Its like they dont care, and just go through the motions. Most years when the sox and yanks play, it feels like a battle, cause if one team goes up 10-1, there is always a fear the other can come back, but not this year. I donno, it just seams like the Yanks are totally listless.

^Maybe the Media shouldn't know what was said in that behind closed door meeting because it's irrelevant now. The team is still losing, so maybe the meeting really didn't work. I've really been disappointed in Gerardi though. I'm not a Yankee fan by any means (And actually am glad they are losing) but this guy is so listless and just doesn't seem to care even though he is coaching the most storied franchise in sports.

The Rays are rising to be sure (I guess they got the "Devil" out), but let's not forget that the Sox have also been hampered with injuries (Ortiz and the fifth starting pitcher being done by committee) which hurts them offensively.

That said, the July 4th game against the Yanks was great. I don't think I've ever seen a baseball rest on top of the wall like that. Even with the ump calling an obvious out a trap (I wonder how much Hank's paying him), the Sox were able to deliver.

.

I was at Citizen`s Bank Bandbox last night for that game and once the game hit the 9th, a Phillies fan turned to me and said Matter of Factly "We are going to win this game." I turned to him and said "In Santana I trust" and 5 seconds later Duaner Sanchez runs out of the pen. I turned back to him and said you win. I still wanna know why the hell Jerry took Santana out after throwing less then 100 pitches. I`d rather we lose with him on the mound then Duaner Sanchez.

Speaking of Mr 20 million a year, I know he can`t post a .000 era but I`d love to see a complete game shutout once in a blue moon. Where is a nice CG, 2 hit, 12 K shutout to get him his 8th win of the year.

Barry Zito finally got a win at home and man did he look good doing it. I've felt bad for this guy all year. He couldn't catch a break, and he doesn't strike me as a primadona who was just in it for the cash. He has been struggling and he knows it. That's why tonight's win was such a great thing to watch, and it was against the Dodgers. I don't think he's back yet, but after his last few starts, I think he might slowly be coming around. Granted he's getting 126 million and he still has a lot of work to do, but damn that was fun tonight.
