Will the New Enterprise's Bridge Dome be Transparent ?

Hey, that's a really good question. I grew up with the Franz Joseph blueprints, so I never thought that the TOS dome was transparent (I assumed the Menagerie/Cage effect was merely dramatic license). But then came TNG, where the set implied that the D's dome was transparent (and Generations confirmed it post-crash). So, this issue does hold interest.

Y'know... By looking real carefully at the Enterprise in the "Under Construction" sneak preview I'd swear I can see the faint outline of a transparent dome there. It seems to show the outline of the bottom of the crane boom that is behind the Bridge. :)

Why should it be transparent in the first place? Doesn't that just put the bridge crew at increased risk? Make it transparent, but put sensors under it.

I hope they can make an airtight sombrero in the 23rd century.

Dunno - could go either way. Aesthetically it would look cool, but windows anywhere on a starship are a huge liability, letting in all kinds of dangerous EM radiation and being a weak point on the hull.

No.

But it will detach as an escape module, with its own auxiliary engine room run by Gary Mitchell and Finnegan.
