Fans Want To See TNG Cast One More Time

I think his TNG TV/Film residual checks must be running out. He was the same person who at the end of ENT's run (he directed a few episodes) felt "Star Trek had been around too long - and needed a LONG break". Sorry three years ain't all that long imo. Plus, I think most people will agree that TNG in general has not aged well; and Nemesis showed just how much interest people had in the TNG crew on the big screen.

I would like to see the TNG crew back together for one last adventure. But even moreso, I'm interested in seeing the adventures of young Kirk, Spock, etc, and I expect that's how the general public will also be feeling a year from now. If the new movie spawns 3 or 4 more with the young cast, it will just be too late at that time to do a viable movie with the TNG cast. Trek is about to become relatively cool again, and though it pains me to say it, TNG isn't nearly as cool as it was in the mid-90s, at least to the general movie-going public.

I guess I'll be the lone voice of dissent here. I'd much rather see a good TNG movie with a familiar cast of actors movie than having Freddie Prinze Jr. (or whoever) playing the legendary Captain Kirk in some "Star Wars" fan's cynical attempt to cash on a hurting entertainment franchise.

I feel a bit sorry for Levar. I think we forget just how well that cast got on with each other - listening to all the interviews and stories down the years it sounded like they had a blast. Something that I don't think we can say about the other shows. Yes, they all probably enjoyed on some level and I'm sure a lot of them are friends - but I've never seen the sense of love the TNG actors seemed to have for each other. There was genuine affection. Patrick Stewart sums it up on the DVD special features and he very nearly has tears in his eyes...

That's probably why its hard to let go.

Most of the other crews were/are sick of the sight of each other and would probably only do it if the money was right.

I honestly don't think you could say that about the TNG crew.

^I'd have to agree with you on key points. Having known cast from both TOS & TNG, the TNG cast seemed to have better off-screen chemistry than any other show.
Having said that, I can't see another TNG movie. "Once bitten, twice shy." With INS and NEM both being unsuccessful... it just ain't gonna happen.
The best bet would be for a few of the TNG cast to wind up in a new TNG-era series. Probably on the new pay channel from Viacom, et al. Due to ages of cast, time moving on in the Trek universe, budget not supporting too many originals, etc.... perhaps Geordi eventually has his own ship yada, yada. Cameos by Admiral Riker, etc.

I'd love to see another TNG movie. I wouldn't expect one before the release of Duke Nukem Forever or before the Braves win the World Series, aka I wouldn't see it coming.

you know, if the cast had two decent scripts i think the last two movies would have done better at the box office.
but people were already wary after insurrection and were on the lookout for the first word that the script for nemesis was a dog.

i think it was more the movies were not that good then people didnt want to see the tng cast.
but then again stewart and spiner can only blame themselves for how much of a dog nemesis transformed into .

Oh gods, please not. There were at least two TNG movies too much. That would be a huge step backwards for Trek.

In theory, you could recast TNG or any of the other series but you have to ask why.

The acid test for whether the characters are worth keeping is if you would want to see new actors in those roles, because those characters are just too good to lose. TOS passes that test; some of the DS9 characters do too (Kira, Dukat, Garak, Quark, Odo - and I think they could do a better job casting Sisko the second time around.)

But TNG, VOY and ENT - nah. Inventing new characters would be better. The only one I want back is Trip and really what I want is Connor Trinneer in a good role again.

And if the characters aren't worth keeping so much that you'd recast the roles, why are the worth going back to with aging actors we've grown sick and tired of?

Insurrection too; as Stewart thought the original script and idea for that was "too dark"; and he also wanted more of "action hero Picard" as he was the 'star' after all.
