I think his TNG TV/Film residual checks must be running out. He was the same person who at the end of ENT's run (he directed a few episodes) felt "Star Trek had been around too long - and needed a LONG break". Sorry three years ain't all that long imo. Plus, I think most people will agree that TNG in general has not aged well; and Nemesis showed just how much interest people had in the TNG crew on the big screen.
