Christian Bale is Batman, also John Connor & now possibly Robin Hood?

This is a casting RUMOR so read it as such. It is being reported at DarkHorizons.com via Daily Mail and is the only place I've seen it thus far.

Christian Bale, soon to be seen as the caped crusader in The Dark Knight, is in talks about donning the jolly Lincoln Green outfit of Robin Hood, where he will be part of a menage a trois between Russell Crowe's Sheriff of Nottingham and Sienna Miller's Maid Marian.
Nothing is signed for Bale, but director Ridley Scott is exceedingly keen to cast him.

Here's a very interesting casting rumor. The Daily Mail reports that Ridley Scott is keen to cast Christian Bale as Robin Hood in his upcoming reinvention of the legend "Nottingham".

Now I doubt this is being planned as a franchise but still Bale is very busy if this rumor even turns out to have been credible.
Next he'll be up for Sherlock Holmes, Jack Ryan, Peter Venkman or the lead any other stagnant but viable franchise sitting idle.

Damn, that would be awesome. I was already sold by Scott's comments on what he intends to do with Nottingham, but throw in Christian Bale as Robin Hood? I'm sold twice over!

Bale would be a good bad guy.

Have you seen the Prestige? He's pretty dark and demented in that film.

Crowe and Bale have worked together before in 3:10 To Yuma.. so I know that have great chemistry together.

Nah, I disagree. As much as I enjoy Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, I agree that it's not a great movie or even a good retelling of Robin Hood. It's not a good thing when the best Robin Hood movie is a Mel Brooks satire (which I love, but the point remains).

This is a very different take on Robin Hood, though. The Sheriff of Nottingham is the protagonist. Here's how Ridley Scott describes it (spoilers for the general premise):

The Sheriff, then, strives to do right while caught in the middle of two wrongs – on one side a corrupt and unpopular King who orders him to arrest outlaws, on the other the outlaw himself who threatens to rouse the public in popular anarchy.

He was dark and complex in The Prestige, but I wouldn't call him a bad guy necessarily. He was the bad guy in Shaft, but that was a one-dimensional role. He was a baddie in Harsh Times, but I thought he overacted in that one.

But watching him and Crowe acting together again but switching roles in a sense would be cool to watch. It'd be like if DeNiro was playing a cop and Pacino was playing the robber, or Jamie Foxx as the bad guy going against Tom Cruise's good guy.

I'd like to see a film where all of Bale's roles meet: Patrick Bateman, Bruce Wayne/Batman, John Connor, Robin Hood. He certainly has an impressive litany of cinematic characters under his belt.

I hope this happens. I thought Bale and Crowe played very well off of each other in 3:10 to Yuma. Add Ridley Scott to the mix and I'll definitely be there when it's released.
