Season 4 Finale - Could quite happily stop watching.

Borg451

Captain
After Season 4.. it seems there is now some sort of ending..

with 1 and 2 and parts of 3.. the scariest thing is that we (the audience) as well as Jacks people didnt know what was going on...and couldnt find out cos we were stuck on the island... and u couldnt just leave it be.. cos you were stuck there..

With the revelation that the others were Bens People who were not just hillbillies.. but geared up people with an agenda.. and access to the outside world.. the show became less scary, at least to me...

at the end of 4... with atleast Jack Hurley Kate etc... rescued.. and away from the mysteries.. or so it seems. i see that alot or people might just stop watching..

i certianly wont.. i love it.. but i can imagine alot of ppl would..

I mean i dont care about alot of the mysteries anymore..

who is Jacob? Dont care.

what is the black smoke? Dont care it just is there..

what is Ben's peoples agenda.. Sorta care... but not losing any sleep over it..

What was the purpose of Station 3.. Do care... i still cant work it out.. (but iwouldnt want a Star Trek ending where the characters just explain it all)

so basically i think people might not watching Season 5 all the way thru.. unless its awesome.. cos Season 4 finale didn't leave me going 'WTF!' it was a resolution.

your thoughts?

I was actually extremely satisfied with the progress of season 4 particularly after the dragging of the feet that I felt during Season 3. It went far to confirming my supposition that Ben and the Others will actually turn out ot be "good guys" in the end.
However I think it gave me the opposite reaction that it gave you ...I'm now really very curious to know about Jacob, Jack's dad, and all the rest of the stuff going on - far more so than i was at the end of season 3. (although the flash forward did pull me in despite picking up on the cellphone clue)

are we understanding each other correctly? i mean.. i loved S4... more then S3 i would say...

im talkign about the cliffhanger elements of it.. i can see how people might not be too concerned with finding out more.. that they are content enought to seee J, K, H, etc off the island..

plus the fact we SAW the island dissapear sorta sets it in my mind that it was 'REAL'

Okay, my head hurts from trying to read this, but I think that people were sick and tired of having no answers. I believe that from the very beginning of season 5, a lot of things are going to be answered and we'll be getting strictly action and goal-oriented episodes from here on out.

Nope, I'll keep watching. It's just getting good.

But that reminds me of the old fear I used to hear people say that if they explain anything, the show will start to suck. That the appeal rested almost entirely on the mysteries staying mysterious. But now a lot has been revealed, so that several possible theories have been effectively eliminated and the general shape of the story is apparent - yet it's never been more fascinating!

Season 4 was the best yet. I want to see how Ben and Jack work together to get back to the island. I want to see where the island went. What happened to Frank? What happened to Desmond and Penny? What happens to Sawyer and Juliet?

The first 2 seasons are by far the best. However I still like the show and record it every time. I agree that the mystery is being destroyed a bit too much but it hasn't hurt the show too much.

How is the mystery being destroyed? They have to answer questions eventually but they've done a masterful job of not destroying the mystery at the very same time.

Anyhow, this would've made for a terrible finale of the show.

Over the course of the last 2 days I managed to marathon my way through all of Season 4, and I thought it was fucking awesome. It didn't ruin any of the mystery for me at all.

Yes, I've stopped wondering about the smoke monster. It exists on the island, but everytime we encounter it we learn something more about it. Now we know that Ben has the power to summon it!

I'm kind of sad that they killed off the entire Rousseau storyline in one fell swoop. As far as plots go, hers stopped being important a while ago, but she was a nice character to have had around. I hope she returns as a ghost, at least. I say this mostly because I just watched Babylon 5 for the first time and was excited when I realized that Delenn and French Woman were one in the same.

I'm still intrigued by Jacob. In Season 3, he was a weird thing that happened in one episode. But now in Season 4, he's bringing back ghosts to do his bidding. They speak for him! Hell, Christian lured Claire away from her baby! Something is up, and I want to know what it is.

Speaking of Claire, what about Aaron?! Now that he's separated from Claire, will he grow up to be an evil demon spawn?

And the numbers are back! Remember the numbers? They went away for a while. I was a little sad because I thought the writers had dropped that part of the story, but they're back!

Still plenty of mysteries to be solved.

Since physical time travel has now been established in the show, no storylines can ever be considered entirely killed off... ;)

I wouldn't say that I could quite happily stop watching Lost, but I did have some issues with Season 4 and recent developments.

It was quite interesting seeing the reverse flashback story-telling method, seeing how the Oceanic 6 came back home. There were some interesting developments, particularly in regards to Ben and the mystical nature of the island.

One thing that has begun to distress me about Lost is the number of character deaths. Over the last two seasons, we have seen a lot of characters killed off. I was particularly saddened to see the deaths of Alex, Karl and Danielle. I felt that Danielle in particular had more of a role to play in the final outcome of the show (seeing what really happened to her in the past would also have been fascinating). Seeing a certain character in a coffin in the finale only added to my concerns about the show.

Another nagging issue that I want to see resolved is 'The Hatch', and exactly what purpose it served. Yes, it governed the magnetic anomaly, and was subsequently destroyed, but what about before that? What was the 'Incident' mentioned on the orientation tape?

When the Lost Heroes entered the Hatch, we saw it as it was, but what did it look like originally, did it have other functions beside simply governing the anomaly? And who was the mysterious Radzinzky that was in the Hatch with Kelvin beforehand? Did he really kill himself, and, while we're on the topic, is Kelvin really dead?

There are some fascinating theories on Lostpedia about the true purpose of the Hatch.

These are all questions that I would like to see answered in the last seasons of Lost.

With all the time travel and flashbacks, we could still get more on Danielle's story. One episode is really all we need.
Seeing a certain character in a coffin in the finale only added to my concerns about the show.
Again, with the story structure, he'll be alive & kicking for practically all the episodes. I expect S5 to be island-flashbacks interspersed with present-day off-island scenes.

One devious element could be: will we know the island segments are flashbacks at all? If the island bopped forward in time (hiding in time rather than space), the island and off-island segments could be closer in time than the timeline would suggest (tho The Guy in the Coffin's presence on the island would prove they can't be contemporary...I think...)

I almost stopped watching after season 3, because it was disappointing and boring.
But season 4 was great and I definitely won't stop watching now. :)

I think my head is going to explode from reading that.

I'll predict right now that the producers will lead us to believe the segments are off-set in time from each other - the island events pick up immediately after the S4 finale, so we assume they're in the past relative to the off-island story. So that when the groups finally meet, we will not expect the two threads to synch up in time, but they will, thus creating yet another smack-to-the-head surprise that will sent teh internets into a tizzy. Classic Lost maneuver! :rommie:
