That's been my concern about the novel for a while, so it's somewhat disheartening to see a review that suggests this (though of course I might disagree). The last few "relaunch" novels have been excellent, and I imagine that on its own merits Fearful Symmetry will be likewise, but the pace of the series as a whole hasn't adjusted well to the one-book-a-year scheduling. There's a real tiny "review" up at Trekweb.
It's a generally positive one, but asks "where's the beef?"
Doesn't sound like there's much beef then.
A shame.

I would like to think that the folks at Pocket are going to try to make up for it soon, but we haven't heard anything about any more novels after this (and since "Destiny" is set a couple of years into the future, it doesn't line-up with DS9's current continuity, so that doesn't help us).
Agreed. With the very serialized format and the nature of several of the story threads that are building, a 1-2 year gap between books is really a detriment. The two stories especially had a very cliffhanger, rapid pace to them. I'm aware of the unexpected delays regarding Fearful Symmetry, but with nothing on the horizon yet in the way of DS9-R until likely next year... it's hard to not feel a case of fabula interruptus coming on.
Here's really hoping that after Fearful Symmetry, the pace picks up again. I'm looking forward to Destiny and am in the middle of the TNG-R so I'm not lost there, and Terok Nor was great. In fact, Terok Nor felt very much like part of the Relaunch... a flashback episode if you will... but it's still not the same thing.
Can't fault fans for liking the story enough to want more, and more often, eh?![]()
Hmm, I must admit that my expectations have been lowered alittle bit by what I've read. I was really hoping the book would be longer so that we could get at least 200 pages or so of each story, but I guess there's not really anything we can do about that. I know their is a very good chance that the stories will still be good, I just wish they could be longer.
As for the next story, as long as it comes out next year, and is longer than the stories in FS I'm probably going to be happy.
Shhh shutup! The page count is the best part! That's why I like DRGIII so much.Uhh.. how are page counts spoilers??![]()
But they used non-sequential fractal algorithms for the MU section. Is it true they used sequential integers to number the pages again? Damn, such lack of originality...
