Happy Kahless' Hand day

Readers of The Final Reflection will recall the tale of the Klingon exclamation "Kahless' Hand!", wherein a spacefaring Kahless (this was pre-TNG) died in battle, lashing his hand to his command chair so that none could question that he went down with his ship, fighting 'til his last breath.

KRAD has revived the phrase in more recent Klingon works, though obviously the tale of its origin would need to be amended.

When FASA incorporated the incident into their timeline, they gave it a date: reference stardate 0/0306.15, or 15 June 2003, five years ago Sunday.

So sing a song and pass the bloodwine.

Kahlesste kaase!

Actually I'm pretty sure there's a late DS9 episode, probably by Ron Moore, in which a Klingon character says "By the hand of Kahless!" or some such. So I think KRAD wasn't the first to revive it.

It's not explicit in the book that it was a spacefaring ship. Some infer this from the general conversation about fighting Romulans, but it could very well have just meant that Kahless likewise died in a great war (at least one of his deaths anyway).

TFR itself may leave room for interpretation, but in FASA's timeline (where the date comes from) it's explicitly in battle with the Romulans.

FASA's Klingon sourcebook, which Ford helped write, describes Kahless' death as coming in a huge fleet action versus the Romulans. While not consistent with the later shows and books, it fits with Kahless presentation in "The Savage Curtain" wearing a "modern" Klingon uniform and thus after they developed warp drive.
