insane new BMW car prototype - must watch video

I always think it'd be amazing to be a concept car designer. Here, have a pencil, make something impractical! :D

I'm always on the look out for BMW regurgitating design concepts from the past and claiming that they're revolutionary, thanks.

When an "artiste" needs to "wave his arms around" to explain what an "acronym" is, I get "really worried".....

There's also a LOT of reasons that aircraft went from fabric skins to metal skins.
And why all fabric skinned aircraft have to be re-skinned every so often.

And they're going to have problems selling a $100,000 car (a high-end BMW is going to be a $20,000 cheapie) when the first time the owner leans his twinkie friend against it and the side of the car moves in like a cheap tent....

;-)

Next big new inovation will be using real wood on the sides of cars. Get a ding, just sand it out and restain to match.

Cloth exterior?

I refuse to launder and iron my car.

That's what I was wondering. How the hell would you wash the thing?

And what if, instead of a dent, you got a "rip"? That would suck - I imagine it'd be super expensive to fix, and it seems like it'd be easy to have happen - heck, graze a tree branch the wrong way and you'd risk it.

What if someone "keys" your car?

Interesting concept but, as with all the other comments made, there is also the concern that this kind of design is a rolling deathtrap. You get t-boned in this thing and there is absolutely nothing to absorb the impact. The full brunt of the collision will shoot you out the other door. You get rear-ended, the car coming in behind you will break your spine. You rear end someone else and your sucking fumes as their tailpipe impales you.

Cool idea, but a bit pointless. The headlights opening like eyes were a little freaky too, good for scaring little kids.

BMW will be ahead of the game the day fabric-like metal or carbon fiber becomes cheap enough to produce.

I would think this skin would be strong enough to be impervious to keying, ripping, denting, etc.

As for absorption of impact: That's what the *frame* is for.

It certainly looks like something from a SCIFI movie

I liked the lights opening

I think it is way cool, we really need some inovation out there, our cars have only been evolving, we need something way outside the box

I think that is actually really neet. Id buy one if i could afford it. Funny how alot of the vintage stuff is coming back into play.
