Call of Duty 5 confirmed as...

Jax

Admiral
Admiral
Call of Duty: World at War

yep no number which is good cause COD 5 sounds stupid and here is the lowdown from the final COD game being made by Treyarch who made all the COD console versions of 1 & 2 plus COD 3...

Call of Duty 5 will indeed return to World War II

Another World War Two game :(...BUT

Developed by Treyarch--not series creator Infinity Ward--the game will portray US Marines fighting the Imperial Japanese in the Pacific.

Different era of WW2 though...

There will also be a "major chapter" in the game focusing on the invasion of Germany by the Soviet Union's Red Army

Not needed but...

four-player player co-op

:techman: dam time...however online is ruined now because

vehicular multiplayer

More News...

Treyarch president Mark Lamir told the magazine, "The direction for the team was to make the best game they could, and as they were doing this they created a grittiness that quite frankly made some people very uncomfortable...This is a scarier Call of Duty than we've ever seen."

When asked about the decision to include graphic violence in the game, creative lead Rich Farrelly said, "It's not just gore and violence for its own sake, but reflects what veterans have told us and the actual history."

One of the levels described in the magazine--called "Maken Raid"--features the torture of an Allied prisoner of war, who then has his throat slit by katana. The brutal scene is watched by the player's character, who is rescued by US Marines

Based on the Call of Duty 4 engine, Call of Duty: World at War will include more destructible environments than prior games in the series. It will also allow players to swim underwater, as well as use Japanese machine guns and flamethrowers with "propagating fire" burning jungle scenery--and enemies--in realistic fashion.

As for multiplayer, the 360 version will sport a four-player co-op mode which can be played with four consoles over Xbox Live, or two consoles each using split-screen. The co-op campaign will be very similar to the single-player campaign, with gamers constantly accumulating points which can be used to unlock perks. Its multiplayer mode will feature vehicles and squad-based elements.

The game is due out before March 2009 and will be for 360, PS3, Wii, PS2 and PC.

A friend of mine is helping with testing of the game. He says it is pretty good, though it is nothing groundbreaking. Really linear with a lot of scripted events.

**Sigh**. CoD was getting so stale in its boots that it made a modern setting for CoD4 actually feel refreshing and groundbreaking for the series  (of course, that feeling was bolstered greatly by the game being just plain fantastic)

But now we're BACK to WWII with the creators of the worst Call of Duty game. And now they're adding vehicles to a game that is about infantry combat. Ugh.

When I want to play a beautifully designed MP game with vehicles I play Halo 3. When I want to play a beautifully designed infantry combat game I play CoD4. I think adding vehicles to (i.e.) CoD4 multiplayer would dramatically shift the feel of the game (for the worse)

So when is the next Infinity Ward CoD outing?

I'll give it a chance but the vehicles make it sound like Battlefield. As long as the perk system is in it might be cool, though. And swimming might be cool.

I can deal with a Pacific Theater setting. After all, no game has really done the pacific front well. What DOES make me gag is the vehicular multiplayer. Vehicles almost NEVER make a shooter better. The only one that pulled it off decently was Halo

I'm happy it's back in WWII. Don't care what anyone says, I never get tired of WWII shooters. Had zero interest in playing CoD 4 as I have zero interest in post-WWII warfare!

Shame. COD4 is an excellent online multiplayer game-although most of us who have been playing since the beginning have reached skill levels that discourage newbies when they run into us.

A Vietnam setting might have been interesting, but at least it isn't the European Theater again. I probably still won't play it, though, I'm an Infinity Ward man. :p

Awww...i liked modern warfare. Awww. Although i do like the idea of swimming underwater. Colour me intrigued....

You're missing out on a lot.

CoD4 is, IMO, the very best CoD game regardless of setting.

Final COD game by Treyarch? Why's that?

I also find it funny that they're dropping the numbering... it's like GH4 being called GH:WT. Must be a new branding strategy at Activision.

Co-op sounds cool... but it's going to compete with Gears 2 and Resistance 2, so I think they needed to implement that in order to stand a chance against the second party games.

I can't say I'm at all excited, but I'm sure I'll end up getting the game. I quite like the CoD4 engine - the shooting feels better than in a lot of other FPS games.

Where's the Civil War or Revolutionary War shooter?

Fire! Reloading... reloading... reloading... reloading... reloading... reloading... reloading... reloading... Fire!

I loved the world war 2 ones. As sort of a history buff I loved landing at d-day and scaling the beeches. Don't get me wrong call of duty 4 was good and all, it just wasn't really my cup of tea.

Final COD game by Treyarch? Why's that?

Response to COD 3 by the fans was quite mild but the main reason is that the contract is up and I think Activision/Infinity Ward realise that if they want to keep the franchise fresh they need bigger breaks inbetween games than just 1 year as come the release of this game (most likely at Christmas) it will be 3 games in 3 years.

Yeah, but this is Activision... the company giving us four Guitar Hero games this year...
But then again, they got their asses kicked by .skate and decided to give Tony Hawk a break this year I guess.

I love WWII settings but COD4 was refreshing. the Pacific theater should be good, but i think vietnam would have been good
