MLB Chatter 2008

John Smotlz and the Braves have a 11:00 am press conference to announce that his season is over and possibly his career. Lord knows how much I hate him, but he was a gamer unlike Tampon Tom Glavine.

EDIT: Don't take offense. My militance is mostly bluster. I have to be zealous for my team and it's players since everyone else here in Phoenix is either a Dodgers, Braves, or Cubs fan.

I'm insulted.

I follow and cheer for the Cubs and will always consider myself a Cubs fan, but I am first and foremost a HUGE Dbacks fan.

And dude, you live less than 35 miles from me.

 Well ok, I'm glad to know that someone here puts the D-Backs above the Cubs/Braves/Mets/Dodgers.

Less than 35 miles from me, eh? Whereabouts? Wickenburg? Casa Grande? Queen Creek?

East Mesa. Close enough to call it Apache Junction.

We really should get together and go to a game...

And the umpires continue to blow home-run calls...at least the Sox were still able to beat TB and take the top spot in the AL East.

Hopefully they'll keep it up when I'm at Fenway tomorrow.

I'm happy to seeing the Mariners imploding, and glad that my Angels could help the process.

Best record in the AL!

:techman:

Surprised by their record(angels), hope I make it down for a game this year, the schedule is not looking good so far...

^Good lord I saw that on Baseball tonight and I know there was some bad blood last night but what the heck set off Coco Crisp. That duck out of the way and then jab was insane. I'm sure there will be a number of suspensions for that one.

I saw the bench clearing on local news. Crisp got some real shots in the pile up on the mound. A lot of times it's just a bunch of guys shoving each other. And what's the deal with Ramirez and Youkilis ?

The Yankees had a dramatic win with Giambi hitting a walk-off home run with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th. :techman: Of course they're still 4th place in the AL and their bullpen is, uh, shaky but still...

Well the incident stems from Weds nights game. Early in the game, Crisp stole second, and slid in head first. Bartlett covered the bag with his knee, which is a no-no if a baserunner is sliding in head first. Crisp thought it was rotten, so when he was on first and tried to steal later in the game, he took out whoever was covering second to send a message. Problem was it was Akanori Iwamura covering the bag, not Bartlett. So the game continues till TB makes a pitching change, and all of a sudden, Maddon the TB manager is yelling at Crisp, who is in the dugout, from the mound.

So I figured today Crisp would get hit, cause from TB's perspective it looked like Crisp started it, but to Crisp it was started on a cheap play by Bartlett. So when he got he go hit in the first like everyone expected...he charged the mound, because he thought it was over, even though TB thought it was not.

And the Youk, Manny thing? I donno, its rare to see in the Sox clubhouse, especially since Tito has been there. Maybe a bit too much testosterone. Im sure disagreements happen through the year, and according to Tito's postgame comments it was not a big deal, and had already been settled.

This one broke my heart. That`s the second in a row that BJ has blown. The Jays really should have won. There really isn`t an excuse.

I give credit to the Yankees for not mailing in the rest of the game after Wang got tagged for 7. I hate the Yankees, but one thing I have always admired about them is their resiliency. Best in the game when it comes to that, really.

Hah! I'd like to thank the Brave who dropped the pop fly and allowed the Phillies to pull this one out of the pooper.

Yeah, I watched the last few innings and I really thought the Jays had it in the bag. *sigh* Stupid Yankees.

I'm actually not opposed to that, it's just really, really, REALLY tough for me to find time to get to a game. :(

The Phillies drafted one of my high school classmates - at #879 or something overall, so who knows if he'll ever make it to the majors, but still pretty cool.

Kelly Johnson.

The entire Braves bullpen needs to be replaced. I'm getting sick of this.
