Couple of questions, if you would (Titan/Vaughn)

Just finished the first Titan novel which I enjoyed a lot, have The Red King already but noticed that it seems to tie-in a bit with Martin and Mangels' Lost Era novel, just wondering how closely they're linked and if it's worth reading that one first (yeah, I know, just read it - but I'll probably pick up the rest of The Lost Era at some point and it's also one of the books free with the UK SFX magazine this month so I could pick it cheap too).

And on that subject, I've just jumped right into The Art of the Impossible (I find Martin & Mangels' stuff to be tougher reads - not a criticism, still very enjoyable, but KRADs stuff flows better for me). I noticed Vaughn has cropped up again, was just curious where he originally came from and who created him. I'd assumed he first appeared in the DS9 re-launch but I'm not so sure now...

Vaughn was originally created for the post-finale Deep Space 9 books, but other authors have been filling in his background (The Battle of Betazed, Serpent Among the Ruins, The Art of the Impossible).

The Sundered and The Red King share a setting, and the latter makes references to the former, but there's not much of a plot connection; they're not so tightly linked that you'll be missing out if you read The Red King first. But The Sundered is a fun book, so if you can get it cheap I'd say you might as well.

Vaughn was created for and first appeared in the DS9 relaunch; like a lot of other characters in the modern fiction, he's since made cameos elsewhere, but Avatar was his first appearance.

Vaughn first appeared in Avatar Book 1, the kickoff of the post-finale DS9 fiction and, as Emh said, he's been a regular in that series of novels, appearing in most of the books.

He's also appeared in various ancillary stories that feature the post-finale DS9 crew, among them "The Other Side" in Gateways: What Lay Beyond, The Brave and the Bold Book 2, the comic book miniseries Divided We Fall, the SCE eBook Lost Time, and some others.

Finally, we've seen him prior to his assignment to Deep Space 9 in Serpents Among the Ruins, The Art of the Impossible, Dawn of the Eagles, and The Battle of Betazed.

others have catalogued Vaughn's appearances. His age and Special Operation background made him a natural for some of the "Lost Era" works.

As a side note, Vaughn's former associate T'Prynn, also first mentioned in one of the DS9 relaunch books (don't have specifics handy), was subsequently used in the TOS-era Vanguard series.

Vaughn appeared in Dawn of the Eagles, not Day of the Vipers. You're thinking of David Gold. Or perhaps Alynna Nechayev.

I've edited the post to fix the Terok Nor title and to remove my admonishment of Emh. :D
