MLB Chatter 2008

Linecume is like a white Pedro Martinez in his prime

Ah, PLEASE delete that statement. You are comparing a very promising young pitcher, to a pitcher, who in his prime was the most dominant pitcher in the HISTORY of baseball. Ah, no.:wtf:

Martinez?

Dude, I want some of whatever you're smoking.

He wasn't even the most dominant pitcher of his own time. You forget that his prime coincides with that of Randy Johnson.

Randy Johnson at his best was way better than Pedro at his best.

Johnson was nice but he wasn`t seeing Dro. There was only one pitcher that was seeing Pedro and that was Greg Maddux.

92: 2.18 era, 9 CG, 20 Wins
93: 2.36 era (bad year), 8 CG, 20 wins
94: 1.56 era, 10 CG, 16 wings
95: 1.63 era, 10 CG, 19 wins.

Between 92 and 98 ERA under 3 every single year, and under 80 walks a year. In 97 he had 20 walks and 19 wins. God I hated him

If you are insinuating that Pedro Martinez was the most dominant pitcher in the history of baseball when he was in his prime, then you are totally friggin' deluded.

Randy Johnson at his best was way better than Pedro at his best.

Read my second post...the way I wrote the first was in error.

Pedro was at one point of his career, the most dominant pitcher in the league, and perhaps I should not have said in the history of baseball, but in his era of baseball.

Perhaps you can argue Johnson with Pedro, but to say he was WAY better, no freaking way.

Edit: After this post I went on SI and looked at their career numbers, and I still maintain the 1998-2003 Pedro was the most dominant pitcher of that era. Further more, when comparing career numbers, Pedro's lifetime ERA is 2.81, while Johnson's 3.28. Both are insane, and of course Johnson's numbers are over a longer career. So, yes, I was hasty in saying that Pedro was undoubtedly the most dominant pitcher of his era, but an argument can be made for it, and thats the side I lean to.

Pedro isn't fit to tie Randy Johnson's boots.

Johnson's probably one of the top 5 pitchers in history. Pedro might be in the top 25.

Greg Maddux, his legendary career speaks for itself. He's one of only two men in history to win four consecutive Cy Young awards.

Who was the other one?

Oh yeah, Randy Johnson. ;)

The disparity, between Johnson and Pedro, especially in their primes, is not as big as you make it seem, or think. There are arguments for both, but in no way is it so bad that Pedro can't tie Johnson's shoes, that rediculous.

I'm a Diamondbacks fan.

I think it's safe to say that we're not gonna see eye to eye on this one.

I admit Pedro had a very dominant stretch.

However, I guarantee you that Pedro Martinez will NOT have the same caliber of career that Randy Johnson has had.

EDIT: Don't take offense. My militance is mostly bluster. I have to be zealous for my team and it's players since everyone else here in Phoenix is either a Dodgers, Braves, or Cubs fan.

None taken. I watch a team that has Manny Ramirez, and I have to defend him.

I agree that RJ will have a longer, better career. I am taking my sampling from when both were in their prime 5-6 years.

And it SUCKS! But hopefully he will be fine. I think the Sox will be able to tread water for the time being without him, and I am hoping they bring up prospect Chris Carter who is TEARING up the minors right now.

All the Sox have to do is keep the Rays from slipping away for the time being. While they are good, I do believe their reliance on youth will come back to bite them late in the season. They just need experience.

XM radio is great- I have it at my house and in two of my cars.

Loved seeing the Twins beat the Yankees on national TV last night. Saw part of it anyway- had to flip back and forth from the hockey game.

Chase Utley for MVP? If he keeps up his current production there's no reason why there shouldn't be three Phillies MVPs in three years.

It's so bizarre being over .500 this early in the season. Usually the Phils are a minimum of 5 games out of first by now.

Congratulations to Randy Johnson who struck out Mike Cameron for his 4,673rd career strikeout, surpassing Roger Clemens for the number two spot on the all-time career strikeout leaders list.

And congrats to Joba Chamberlain for his first career start. May have had relief appearances that lasted longer (2.1 innings), but still, keep up the good work. The Hank Steinbrenner era is gonna be a blast (as a Sox fan)!

;)

Not when he's playing in the same league as Lance Berkman, he's not.

Yes it is. That organization seems to be run by a bunch of monkeys that are all running is opposite directions.

I'm insulted.

I follow and cheer for the Cubs and will always consider myself a Cubs fan, but I am first and foremost a HUGE Dbacks fan.

And dude, you live less than 35 miles from me.

 Well ok, I'm glad to know that someone here puts the D-Backs above the Cubs/Braves/Mets/Dodgers.

Less than 35 miles from me, eh? Whereabouts? Wickenburg? Casa Grande? Queen Creek?
