MLB Chatter 2008

I saw the Braves make a fool of Brandon Webb yesterday. That means I've seen them beat Johan Santana and Brandon Webb in person now. Makes my year. :D

What a heartbreaker for the Braves last night during that loss to Milwaukee... I'm hoping they can take Game 2.

If anybody is curious. Baseballchannel.tv is showing the Brooklyn Dodgers vs NY Yankees. Its game 07 of the World Series and Mickey Mantle just hit the 10th homer of the series for the bombers setting a W.S. record. Its great seeing how far tv coverage of these games have come especially since I just finished watching the Met victory over Florida.

Quite impressive. But there's no way in hell he's going to catch up with Nolan Ryan, especially considering his back problems.

^I'm not quite sure I agree with you on that. This is/was Randy of old. Unlikely yes, but impossible? Not with The Big Unit.

Except Johnson's already 44 years old. Ryan retired when he was 46 and from what I recall, he didn't have any major injuries until the one that ended his career. Johnson, on the other hand, has major back issues. It's not going to happen.

That was an awesome triple play the Giants did tonight. I don't get to see those very often and having it be around the horn was cool. Yeah they lost and blew it in the 13th, but the Triple play made it all worth while. :techman:

I'm loving the Jays right now. 20-9 in the month of May, the best record in the majors for the month, and they've pulled within 2 of Boston for the wild card spot and 3 of Tampa in first. The pitching is absolutely on fire, and the offense is picking up... good stuff!

opinon, is Jayson Werth (Phillies) worth keeping on my f.team?

he is capable of having the big week, but is of course injured, is it worth riding the injury out, or looking for another OF?

Jay Bruce is going to be the next big thing.

Bruce is beasting right now and is on a tear. I still think Justin Upton is gonna be a better player when all is said and done, but Boss Bruce is just smashing the ball. The Big Red Machine is gonna be a problem in a year or two and I really wish the Mets could grow players like that and I wish we had pitchers like Linecume and Volquez instead of Mike Pelfrey. Linecume is like a white Pedro Martinez in his prime and Volquez is a problem. I`d love to see those two pitch against each other.

Ah, PLEASE delete that statement. You are comparing a very promising young pitcher, to a pitcher, who in his prime was the most dominant pitcher in the HISTORY of baseball. Ah, no.:wtf:

I wouldn't go that far. I mean that history includes the likes of Babe Ruth, Steve Carlton, Sandy Kofax, and not to mention some of the best pitchers recently. Don't get me wrong, Pedro was very good in his prime, but the best pitcher in the history of the game? I disagree.

Actually, true. I mis wrote what I meant. I should say, in his prime, late 90's-2000, Pedro was the most dominant pitcher, perhaps ever, during those particular years. As overall careers go, yes, those pitchers you mentioned were dominant over a longer period of time, but I am not sure they each had a select few years were they were as dominant as Pedro was, particularly during the steroid era.

Seeing the video of him during the '99 All-Star Game gives me freaking chills, it's awesome.

If you are insinuating that Pedro Martinez was the most dominant pitcher in the history of baseball when he was in his prime, then you are totally friggin' deluded.

Randy Johnson at his best was way better than Pedro at his best.
