I had to give this one a happy Excellent. It deserved it!

Interesting that "Claire" said NOT to bring Aaron back to the island. Whereas Ben is trying to get all 6 of them back to the island. So Ben and the Island are at odds?

Re: Lost Season Four Finale: "There's No Place Like Home, Parts II & I

Excellent.

First off, John is not dead. And I don't mean Not. Dead. I mean he's going to come back to life once he gets back to the Island. That's why Ben wants to bring him back.

I'll post some more thoughts later on.

One fascinating tidbit: Charlotte was on the Island before! Guess that makes her Annie, Ben's childhood sweetheart. I suddenly give a frak about her as a character for the first time since her first episode.
I loved Miles' "Oh! What do I mean?"

And good call on her being Annie. Of course, the question now is how, when, and why did she leave the Island. And did Ben recognize her (and vice versa)?

Re: Lost Season Four Finale: "There's No Place Like Home, Parts II & I

Wow, a frozen donkey wheel.
Hey yeah! I forgot about that.

Right up to the point when he appeared behind Jack, I was convinced that Ben was in the coffin. He was known to have alias and this guy's name was Jeremy Bentham for crying out loud!
I thought of him too. Same with Abbadon.

But why did it have to be JOHN?!?! :(
Not. Dead.

Re: Lost Season Four Finale: "There's No Place Like Home, Parts II & I

This was an excellent finale. Great action scenes, especially Sayid's second "kick ass fight scene during a season finale" moment and the helicopter crash.

I actually really liked how the majority of the story took place on the island, with only a few choice flash-forwards sprinkled in to add a few more pieces to the puzzle. The "on-island" story juggled a lot tonight, and the story really moved, with commercial break cliffhangers actually being addressed after the break . I also liked the "one week later" thing, since they haven't done that before, which gave the last "present" scenes an interesting new feel for this show. It helped that the stuff that happened during that missing week is something we *GASP* can actually fill in ourselves, and don't need to see filled in, i.e. the creation of the Oceanic 6's story.

Coffin = Locke??? I am definitely looking forward to seeing how that plays out...they're in 2007 in the flash-forwards, right? That gives Locke 2-3 years (depending on how late into '07 they are) to die and show up in the funeral home somehow.

PENNY AND DESMOND FOREVER!!!!!
Agreed. :D :D :D My favorite Lost relationship by far, which is remarkable considering everyone else's wacky relationships have been featured in far more episodes than the epic-in-comparison Desmond/Penny story. They've done a remarkable job crafting it.

One more thing that I thought was really, really cool...near the beginning when the Others were taking out the Freighter soldiers, I said out loud to myself "Wait a minute...I'm rooting for the Others!" I can't think of another show that's been able to take characters I felt comfortable knowing as "The Enemy" and over four years change and morph that perception into something completely different. This is stellar television.

Excellent episode. A lot of the future events were neatly tied up in this episode with some more still unanswered. Of course revelation of who is the coffin had me going on the edge of my seat literally.

Miles asking for permission for the peanuts was funny as hell.

Pixies' Gouge Away which was playing in the truck when Jack arrived at the funeral home had me jamming for a bit. Awesome choice of music.

If Jin is still alive then he is either the luckiest bastard ever or something supernatural saved him.

Penny and Desmond reunion was great moment. Almost had me in tears.

Of course the island disappearing was the highlight of the episode.

Yeah, they make it sound like Locke will be ressurected by the Island.

At the very least, Cerebus will eat his body and assimilate him into the ghost-hive mind like Christian was. Locke will become the new Jacob, the new ghost daddy.

Re: Lost Season Four Finale: "There's No Place Like Home, Parts II & I

Also... Sayid discovers a finger-sized hole in the fuel tank a foot from his face. He can't stick his finger in there? Or clap his hand to it? Or stick a rag in it? WTF?
The hole was definitely more than a foot away from his face.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I'll be interested in reading your thoughts on the matter.

I'm going to need a day to process.

Also, the Penny and Desmond scene was amazing. They put Kate/Sawyer/Jack to shame. Fantastic, just fantastic.

That said, I'm not sure yet that overall it was the best finale. It was certainly great but I still think I like the first two the best. Could change, though. Could change.

Well Christian appearing at the last second, I feel, is a clear sign that Jacob steps in and saves everyone from the explosion. Just like he saved everyone from the plane crash (even Vincent). If he can cure cancer from thousands of miles away, he can do this.

But only if he loves you.

Meaning not you, Ben!

Re: Lost Season Four Finale: "There's No Place Like Home, Parts II & I

I remember back when Kate first kissed Jack in "What Kate Did" I thought to myself, "ok, cool, she's made up her mind." Turns out I was an idiot for thinking that, and years later we're still supposed to be interested in "Who will she pick?!?!" Meanwhile, Desmond's love story has a whole lot more resonance. I guess every TV show needs some sort of typical love triangle? Usually whoever Kate likes the most during any given scene is who I think she should end up with, if only to end the "suspense." I use that term VERY lightly. ;)

My guess is that Michael is dead, but Jin and some of the redshirts survived.

That said, even if Michael did show up next year, I wouldn't be that surprised.

Re: Lost Season Four Finale: "There's No Place Like Home, Parts II & I

Another problem I had; we have a two hour finale, and all the soldiers were killed off in the first ten minutes, leaving a wounded and nigh-dead Keamy left for a lame return. They kind of shot their wad a little early there, I feel. Should have been more of an epic confrontation. Did they kill off all the Others in the first ten minutes of "Looking Glass"?

Heh, that reminds me. Both Keamy and Mikhail "died" in the season finale, then made a shocking last minute return near-dead for revenge, resulting in the deaths of good guys.

I don't mean to be down on the show, it's my 2nd favorite show of all time after Babylon 5. But this finale left a bad taste in my mouth. I haven't really been disappointed in the show like this since the first season finale when we didn't find out what was in the Hatch. Still, next year should be cool! I look forward to see the working trio of Desmond, Penny, and Frank! :D

Re: Lost Season Four Finale: "There's No Place Like Home, Parts II & I

Cripes, whenever I see Josh Holloway without his shirt on I have to actively reminded myself that I'm heterosexual.

...So the first thing that immediately comes to my mind is... What could possibly have gone so "wrong" on the island? Those that remain seem like they should be able to live with each other relatively peacefully. It'll be interesting to see why things got so bleak that John Locke of all people felt the need to leave the island.

I voted Above Average. Good stuff, but not the show's best.

Anyone see if Rose & Bernard made it to the Kahuna, or are they alive and well on the beach?

After all the soldiers were dead, I was wondering to myself what the rush to move the island was. Why move the island at all, in fact? Were they afraid Widmore would find them again? And send yet another team of military guys?

I'd imagine so.

What went wrong? Charlotte, Miles, and Faraday! I'm still not convinced any of them are on the up-and-up, not even Faraday. Why does he keep secrets like that? Charlotte is probably still a loyal Dharma soldier, that's why she's hunting for the Island.

I'm guessing they're still on the Island with Juliet, Miles, Charlotte, Sawyer, and a few other redshirts.

Re: Lost Season Four Finale: "There's No Place Like Home, Parts II & I

Excellent episode!

I loved that Penny and Desmond are reunited (and it feels so good!) but I don't think it necessarily bodes well for Desmond in the future if Ben really is going to try to kill Penny. You knew that Desmond wasn't dead. He hadn't read Our Mutual Friend yet. But seriously, Matthew Fox's reading of "I'll see you in another life, brother." Pretty bad.

Michael's dead as a doornail. Good riddance. But, seriously, why bring the character back if you're only going to kill him off a few episodes later? Does anyone really think he got his redemption? If Jin died, then absolutely not.

Speaking of Jin... I don't know about him. I want him to be alive because I think the drama will be much more interesting if Sun believes that Jin is dead but Jin can't do anything to get back to her. Its a pretty bad ending for a good character if he is really gone. Maybe Daniel Dae Kim will speak up here soon to say if he's coming back... maybe not.

I think Daniel and the Zodiac crew were taken with the island wherever it went. I don't think it was just in the middle of the ocean or anything. I like that it looks as though Miles and Charlotte (also the first time I liked her since her first couple minutes on the show) will be having bigger roles next year.

As for Locke, yeah, he's Not. Dead. He'll be back, if not next season, then the season after.

I am wondering how the story's going to work next year. Will the characters all be back on the island within the first hour? Will we be caught up to current time in both circumstances and see flashbacks as to what went wrong? Or will the story take a different approach and have one story in the Oceanic Six present and a second story in the island story. It'll be interesting to see what happens there.

Still, lots of interesting things ahead. January can't come soon enough!
