Star Trek XI - New faces, right fit?

Cool find. The only one appearance wise I have any problem with is Chekov. Yelchin's face is very angular compared to Koenig's. Sulu is a little off too, but not bad. I'm not sure if the last two pics of Pine and Quinto are photo manips or not, but they look pretty good in costume.

Yeah, an interesting article. Nothing new though. It's more or less what we are discussing here since the cast was announced. Although I still don't get why the new actors are supposed to look just like the originals.

They don't really have to. I guess my personal preference is they have a passing resemblance. They all work for me with the possible exception of Yelchin in that regard. But that's not a deal breaker since the most screen time he's likely to have is when the Klingons attack the Enterprise. 30 seconds tops.

I agree with the comments about Yelchin... however! Is such an up and comin star only going to have thirty seconds screen time? I would have thought he would *demand* more!

I can't wait to hear the accents though, particularly Simon Pegg's take on Scotty!!

Seriously those Kirk/Spock photofits really freak me out...

Hopefully they've been able to play the characters without purely mimicking the original actors, otherwise this film will end up being a joke.

I think SImon Pegg will be fine but I don't know too much about the other actors! They all seem to have fairly good track records.... time will tell (why do we have to wait so long?!?!)

Well we can't say they aren't trying really hard to get that look and feel back.

I can't believe that people are still obsessing over nonsense like whether these actors are physical clones of the previous ones to the extent of publishing an article with illustrations as if it's important.

Re: Star Trek XI - New feces, right fit?

Well, it certainly wasn't essential to me that they get someone for the part who looks like the original. Acting ability is a far more important quality to have, IMO.

But I must confess that, liking Zachary Quinto's acting anyway, it is nice that he looks so much like Nimoy. :)

Re: Star Trek XI - New feces, right fit?

I think "irascible" is my new favorite way of describing McCoy's character!

I thought it was a fun article but I wish they hadn't used the photoshop pics of Quinto and Pine. You're never quite sure how much was changed in those, and it's not a really fair comparison if you use those then regular pictures with the others.

Re: Star Trek XI - New feces, right fit?

It's not a big deal for me whether they resemble the original cast, but I must say that I think Quinto was the perfect choice for Spock. You couldn't find anybody that resembles Nimoy more closely than he does IMO.

^ You don't like it? I'm just curious as to why not.

I haven't watched this season of Heroes yet (I watch that show on DVD), but I thought he did a fine job in that during season one - some good solid acting.

And the fact that he bears a passing resemblance to Nimoy is a bit of a bonus.

He bears a passing resemblance, yes. I think if I showed up at a local Halloween party and he was dressed as Spock, I would say, "Good choice. You pulled it off." But that's about the level I would place him at, in terms of similarity.

(Now granted, I have not seen the movie yet, and I may be blown away, but neither have any of the people who seem to think he is simply perfect.)

As to his acting, I think he does an alright job on a show that has a lot of buzz at the moment (or had a lot of buzz, anyway). I think some of the temporary fanboy excitement over "Heroes" spilled over onto the fanboy excitement over the Quinto casting.

He does an okay job on a television show that does not ask for ridiculous amounts of acting on the part of its actors.

And as for the role he plays on "Heroes", there is nothing about how he plays Sylar that would indicate, for good or for bad, his ability to convincingly play Spock.

And yes, I realize that Nimoy was just a t.v. actor when he first played Spock. I guess I have been so impressed by Nimoy's ability to absolutely define that character over the years, that I'm not as giddy as some others are to hand over the mantle to some flash-in-the-pan (for the moment, anyway) t.v. actor who only bears a passing resemblance to him.

Again, his performance may blow me away. But I've seen nothing to indicate that, so far.

** Plus, we all know I hate the gays.
