shatner CAN act!!!

I finally got around to watching BOSTON LEGALS final episode this year...and they finally let him show his chops again..this guy CAN act. He out acted James Spader and carried this great episode....I put this in the general topic area because I would match him up against ANY of the other trek actors...

Oh..and by the way..go back and read those GENERATIONS reviews and it is generally accepted he stole every scene with mr. ENGLAND Baldy guy....

So...stick up your craw Brooks, Stewart, Mulgrew, Bakula....Shatner is SUPREMO CAPTAIN!!!!..(an a two time Emmy award winner as well)

Yep. I've said for a long time that people really exaggerate the Shat's acting weaknesses. It has just become yet another of those popular culture things that takes on a life of it's own.

As your location is San Diego are you trying to stick it to us English that Shatner the American actor is better than the British Patrick Stewart?

Because Shatner is Canadian...

And Stewart is Scottish, is he not? ;) So the dig would be a bit aslant of target anyway.

But what I want to know is, who is the best Trek actor? My guess, offhand, I'd have to say, DeLancy. Talk about a scene-stealer! Levar Burton is another. And that Morn guy.

He is North American!!!!...anyway, its all in good fun...I saw Patrick's one man show several years ago and he is beyond compare..even for a baldy..at least Shatner isn't bald!!!...(wink wink)

I don't think there's ever been a great deal of credence given to the notion that Shatner can't act; he can and does, sometimes quite well. However, he has got a well-earned reputation for being a ham, on occasion, some of those occasions most certainly while engaged in portraying Captain James T. Kirk.

I think he's recently given his location as being different, but we'll let you have him, cheap. :)

He is not. Stewart is from Yorkshire.

See...I always thought of that as just being who Kirk is... so...actually...Shatner was doing him perfectly. Just a character choice. :techman:

Of course! So do most of us, I'm sure.

It's still hammy, but I just don't see how that gets twisted into "Shatner can't act."

Works for me.

Shatner is like Elvis. Elvis was really cool in his early days, but people tend to think of "Fat Elvis" when you mention Elvis, so most people tend to think of third season Captain Kirk when you mention Shatner. Watch the early episodes of Star Trek and pay attention to his acting; you will notice that he does little things like a shrug or a gesture that convey a lot more than dialog.

Off topic, but there is a Shatner School on 16th Street in DC that I think is named for a really important ancestor of William Shatner, Mordechai Shatner, one of the signators of the Israeli declaration of independence. I threatened, er, told, er, SUGGESTED, to my wife that I wanted our kids to go there. She told me no way in hell would she send our kids to a place named after someone even remotely related to Star Trek, and besides, we are not Jewish. Confronted with unassailable logic, I conceded. The wife unit wins again.

Shatner has become a US citizen, or at least he applied last I heard (and it's an outrage that the frakkin State Dept would make Captain Kirk wait!!!)

Shatner can act, hasn't he won Emmys? He just made some unique acting choices as Kirk that he'll never live down. :D But at least he was never a boring old granny like Picard. It's not a bad thing for people to be talking about an actor's performance decades after the fact.

Your point being, RS? Just venting? Get yourself a blog.

Oh, this is his blog, right here. :D

Absolutely Shatner can act. Sometimes he can act very well, other times...not so much!

Of course he can act. If Shatner sucked as an actor, TOS would never have become the cult success that it did...and we wouldn't be sitting here posting on a BBS about it, 45 years later.
