JJ Abrams on the direction of Star Trek 11

The FF movies were great.

I can no longer take anything you say seriously.

Not my problem.

Considering how the FF movies were universally panned by the critics and really didn't bring in blockbuster box office numbers compared to other highly-touted super hero movies (controlling for inflation neither even brought in as much world-wide as TMP and TVH did), you must be saying that the producers did a fine job appealing to their fan base and giving them what they wanted. ;)

As long as Dennis gets what he wants, he doesn't much care about anything else. He's a selfish bastard.

Kind of like me.

I'm saying that I saw the movies and thought they were great fun.

No, I don't care who else they pleased or didn't. I'm particularly bored by the complaints of folks who've consumed the comics every month for decades like holy scripture and pay money at the box office expecting to be serviced. Their expectations are misguided.

I'll be glad if Abrams' movie is as well-made and satisfactory to watch as the FF movies were, as that would put it light-years ahead of most of the Trek films.

I certainly hope and expect that Abrams' Trek movie will in fact be considerably better made than the FF movies.

As someone said, if one of us is going to be disappointed I'd rather it was you.

The problem had nothing to do with fealty to comics which people like me have never read. The problem is that the characters were fucking annoying.

I saw quite the opposite. "The critics" I read usually enjoyed the movies, but many diehard FF comics readers hated many of the changes made to the characters and interrelationships.

But they did please many viewers, told good stories not too overwhelmed by SPFX, brought new FF fans into the franchise, and sold lots of toys to little kids and adult collectors.

In any case, I love "Lost", too, and I do trust JJ to deliver the goods on ST.

The more I see and read about this project, the less interested I get.

What exactly about his statement do you not like?

It's not only his statement, it's the whole thing about a recycled TOS which will not be the same as the "real" TOS. I get the impression that there will be a lot of action, banging and shooting and effects and actors who don't look or act like Kirk, Spock and the others but are supposed to be those characters. I also get the feeling that the spirit of Star Trek, the whole premise with good stories and good characters will be lost in an attempt to attract a new audience.

And no, I'm not gonna bash the movie (or admit that I was wrong) before I've watched it so number6 better save the popcorn for some other day. ;)

Well, it IS supposed to be a movie. Two hours of a ship sailing around while crewmen talk about the philosophy of life doesn't make much for entertainment. And I'd argue that if the TOS ever had a bigger budget there would have been more action and cool effects.
