SOUNDTRACKS

Ah, you see, NOT action-packed and NOT fast-paced... that is quite the deal-breaker for me ;)
Um... Danny Elfman's Planet of the Apes? If for the Holst-esque opening number alone; but the rest is pretty good too.

Since I'm always on the lookout for good movie-music... what would you recommend?

My two favorite movies also have my favorite soundtracks:

Transformers (I freaking love Steve Jablonsky's orchestral score, especially 'Autobots,' 'The All Spark', and 'Arrival To Earth')

2001: A Space Odyssey (there is some repetition here, as it contains two or three versions of some songs like 'Lux Aeterna' and 'Requiem', but all the good music is in there)

I think both movies suck, but this is only my opinion ;)
But you are right about the music - I only wish I could get it for a normal amount of money... the British Amazon sells it for 82 fucking pounds :wtf::eek:

The music for 2001: A Space Odyssey is classical and most of it can be bought seperately. In fact, I think I have most of it seperately... hmm... the most 'action-packed' segment, I guess, is the overture from Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra, maybe that's available cheaper?

I meant the Transformers score :)

I have 'Also Sprach Zarathustra' already as a CD of its own ;)

My favorite soundtracks:

Amadeus - but then, I'm a Mozart fan to begin with, so I'm not sure as this one counts.
Dances With Wolves
Out of Africa
Evita
- But of course, this film took the music directly from the ALW play....
The Big Chill

Jerry Goldsmith's 13th Warrior
James Horner's The Rocketeer
Hans Zimmer's Mission Impossible II(if only for the track called "Injection")

Oh! David Arnold's score for Cutthroat Island! Superb score that almost no one knows about.

Cutthroat Island's score is by John Debney isn't it?

All of David Arnold's "Bond" scores are pretty sweet.

Amadeus is great film - but the music is not so my taste
Evita - :techman:

The others I will have to check out - Thank you :)

Ah, yes they are great - I have them, of course ;) - Die Another Day and Casino Royale I like the most.

I'm listening right now to 'Lost in Space' by Bruce Broughton - get this one if don't have it already! :D

Evita - :techman:

...now that we've moved to musicals, Sweeney Todd might be to your taste. Fairly dark, operatic and action-packed by musical standards. Some superb underscoring. I've only seen the film version; but I'm sure there are other good ones on the market.

Edit: 'Our' was a curious Freudian slip, I meant 'your'.

And in the shopping cart wents the DVD - thanks :)

Unfortunately that service is not available for me here in Germany :(

Are you saying that you can't access/download music from Amazon MP3 from your computer just because you're in Germany?:wtf: Or are you referring to iTunes?

Well, at any rate, I would definitely recommend checking some of your available music download services if you're interested in getting Jablonsky's score for Transformers for a reasonable price unless you really want the CD. I believe that the CD is, unfortunately, out of print right now but I think I've seen some copies for sale through eBay if you have access to that. Happy hunting!:techman:

No, Amazon blocks non-Americans from using this download service... :(

Probably rather different to most that have been suggested, but I adore the soundtrack for O Brother, Where are thou? I rate it amongst my favourites.

That is not really the kind of soundtrack I'm looking for. But thank you :)

ST-One, you should try Ennio Morricone's My Name Is Nobody, especially the track entitled The Wild Bunch.
;)

Ennio Morricone is good in general. :techman:

Two random recommendations: The Untouchables and The Battle of Algiers.
