I suppose people could vote whichever way they want, but I don't understand the lack of love for Balance of Terror. Do people really think it is not even in the top 10? I always thought it was a concensus "top three" among Trek Fans -- including me. I feel Mark Lenard's performance as the "respected adversary" was among the top guest performances ever in any Star Trek series.

I love it, easily Roddenberry's best Star Trek script, IMHO.

That may be true, but he only wrote 5 Star Trek episodes: The Cage, Miri, The Menagerie, The Omega Glory, and Bread and Circuses.

However he did write the Teleplay for 2 other episodes (Private Little War and Return to Tomorrow) and came up with the story idea for -- but did not write -- 4 more episodes (Mudd's Women, Charlie X, The Return of the Archons, and Assignment: Earth).
