Coming Attractions Trailer Scenes Not Appearing In the Episodes

Dayton3

Admiral
How many of you can name scenes that appeared in the trailers for episodes that don't appear in the actual episodes?

I can think of a few over the years:

OS: The Doomsday Machine

The scenes to this episode feature the Constellation firing and TWO phaser beams striking the Planet Killer from an opposite direction than in the actual episode which featured only ONE phaser beam striking.

ST:TNG-Yesterdays Enterprise

The scenes to this episode feature a viewscreen scene of the lead Bird of Prey veering up and way from the Enterprise and hitting the Enterprise with a disruptor shot as it veers away. In the episode, we see the crew react to this hit but not the effects shot itself.

ST:TNG-Night Terrors.

The very end of the scenes to this episode show the Enterprise flying away from a crystalline ship of some sort. This exact scene is nowhere in the final episode.

ST:DS9

Can't remember the exact episode, but near the end of Season Six, a montage of "future episode scenes" are shown. One shows the Defiant streaking in and firing its pulse phasers.

This exact scene is never shown in a Trek episode.

Those are just a few I can think of off the top of my head.

TOS : "The Galileo Seven"

There was a shot in the trailer of looking out the shuttlecraft's "window/viewscreen" and seeing the burning flames of re-entry that was never used in the actual episode.

Are you sure? Because I *do* remember that shot.

In the movie trailer for TUC I remember seeing a close up of the Romulan ambassador saying, "There will never be a better time."

But I don't believe it was in the movie. I think it might have been a part of the "Clean their chronometers" deleted scene. Or maybe it shed some light on the Romulan's involvement in the conspiracy since that was mentioned but not related elaborated on.

I remember a trailer for first contact had an Image of voyager firing her phasers on a Borg cube but afaik that scene was never shown.

Over here in England, we've never really been treated to much in the way of TV promotion. Not for Star Trek anyhow. Even now, they don't come as extras on the DVDs. I used to love checking out TV spots online for episodes that would take months to reach us. Until Star Trek.com closed up shop, I was still doing that for TOS-R.

There are few sequences shown in trailers which never made the final cut. My favourite is Kirk telling Harriman, "Let's see if we can cheat death together" from the Generations trailer.

Thinking about this, imagine doing a trailer marathon. 704 episodes? 30 seconds each? That must be about 6 hours of advertising right there... almost as bad as an average day on network television.

No you don't.

You remember the viewscreen view of the lead BOP veering "upwards" and the viewscreen showing the TWO trailing BOPs fire on the Enterprise.

The viewscreen shot of the lead BOP firing on the Enterprise is not shown in the completed episode. The sound of the disruptor hit and the bridge being jarred is shown, THEN it cuts back to the viewscreen, which shows the two trailing BOPs firing together.

In the movie trailer for TUC I remember seeing a close up of the Romulan ambassador saying, "There will never be a better time."

And the Efrosian UFP President - with his wife! - entering the Khitomer conference.

USS Voyager in a movie teaser trailer - "First Contact"?

Closeup on Shras and Thelev in "Journey to Babel" (TOS).

I don't put movie trailers in the same category.

Movie trailers hit the theatres often long before post production work on effects heavy movies has been completed. So there is often lots "not in the movie" images in science fiction movie trailers.

That sounds more like they grated together two shots from different parts of the episode (two beams being fired by Enterprise), rather than some deleted or unused bit.

No.

The Doomsday Machine was facing toward the right of the screen.

All the scenes of the Enterprise firing on the Doomsday Machine had it facing the left of the screen.

Plus, all the Enterprise weapons impacts were against a Doomsday Machine in motion.

The machine was stationary in the trailer.

I remember a trailer for first contact had an Image of voyager firing her phasers on a Borg cube but afaik that scene was never shown.

I remember that shot, too. It was around the same time as Lily firing upon Data in the trailer, mixed in with the kick-ass music from Generations.

Seeing Voyager on the big screen was one of the reasons why I wanted to watch First Contact so badly. Don't get me wrong, I still adore the movie, but seeing the E-E, the Defiant, and Voyager all in one movie? That would've been *great!*

But the Voyager is not in First Contact. However, the ship looks like the NX-01 appears in the 1982 movie, Zapped! starring Scott Baio.

But the Voyager is not in First Contact.

It was in First Contact's trailer, though, in a scene that was specifically shot for the trailer (so it wasn't stock footage).

After all, that's the point of this thread: scenes in the trailers that didn't make it into the movies.

Actually this thread is for scenes that do not appear in EPISODES!!

Not movies.

Ugh, where's that self-smacking smiley when you need one? My bad.

Still, it was a nice shot in the trailer!

Edit: Ah, here it is!

From Wikipedia -

"A teaser trailer, or teaser is a short trailer used to advertise an upcoming movie, game or television series.

Teasers, unlike typical theatrical trailers, are usually very short in length (between 30–60 seconds) and usually contain little if any actual footage from the film. Sometimes it is merely a truncated version of a theatrical trailer. They are usually released long in advance of the film they advertise.

Teaser trailers are usually only made for big-budget and popularly themed movies. Their purpose is less to tell the audience about a movie's content than simply to let them know that the movie is coming up in the near future, and to add to the hype of the upcoming release. Teaser trailers are often made while the film is still in production or being edited and as a result they may feature scenes or alternate versions of scenes that are not in the finished film."
