Didn't Rose say the sounds from Smokey sound familiar

I think it was the pilot episode when they first heard smokey, which sounded like a dinosaur roaring and the clanking noises. But what did she mean by that?

With all of the time travel stuff being talked about, maybe she heard the smoke monster from the Island before? She said something to the effect of it sounding familiar...it doesn't remind her of anything, but she heard the smoke monster before and somehow time traveled or whatever and is hearing Smokey again.

All that Rose said was that it sounded familiar and someone asked where she was from (the Bronx). She made no mention of dinosaurs. I think Hurley is the only person who mentioned dinosaurs.

One of the sound effects for the monster is from a taxi receipt printer, but Lindelof and Cuse have stated that that specific sound has nothing to do with the nature of the monster.

I think she said it sounds familiar is because she was on the Island before, kind of like a time travel thing....

I don't have a good explanation for it, but when it comes to Lost how many good theories are there?

I was day dreaming at work and thought about it....maybe she and Bernard are Adam and Eve?

The clanking noises always sounded a bit like a rollercoaster to me. Perhaps it reminds Rose of Coney Island. It's not that far from the Bronx to Brooklyn.

Yep, that struck me as important at the time and it still does.

Rose is from the Bronx. I'm figuring that she's being reminded of industrial sounds (elevated trains?) or possible sounds from the zoo (does she live near the Bronx Zoo?)

Maybe Rose once drove a taxi?

I think the time that was written, the writers didn't really know jack squat about what Smokey was.

Well, Bryan Burk specifically mentioned a New York City taxi receipt printer as being the origin for one of the monster's sound effects, so I'd imagine Rose remembers it from simply having been in a taxi many times while living in NYC.

Which wouldn't stop them from coming up with an answer that would fit in with Rose's comment. The Bronx has mechanical and animal sounds galore (and it isn't even necessarily from the Bronx, just from somewhere in that area Rose might be familiar with - such as the Coney Island roller coaster idea). Even natural sounds (ocean waves, etc.) That covers a whoooole lot of options.

I bet you're right but then I'm of the opinion they've been making it up as they go all along anyway. I know that's not a popular opinion around here and there will be a dozen posters telling me I'm wrong, but it's just MHO based on almost 4 seasons of watching the show.
