From the CW/Girlicious' first video/role model for our girls today

Its members chosen from the recently aired Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious on that banner network, the CW, the first video of the newly chosen girls' group... :)

Girlicious. In the tradition of the Pussycat Dolls. After ten weeks of competition, the members were selected by Robin Antin and the first video filmed. It's all about the music. Why, I'm saddened that I don't have a daughter to see this formula for success. Why Leann Rimes didn't go this route I'll never know. How will the youth of today succeed without more role models like this? :( As they said, this empowers our girls.

Girlicious Presents Stupid Shit

I think the tube socks add the perfect touch of class to the wardrobe. :bolian:

It's getting harder to distinguish parodies from "serious" videos.

I remember the first time this happened to me (I thought "My Name is Slim Shady" had to be some sort of a joke, though I wasn't laughing, exactly...just changing the channel) and how old I felt. I didn't think I'd feel so old before hitting, I don't know, seventy.

Now, now, the hooker wear is empowering. The tube socks, bras, and panties were very chic, don't you think? Sexuality is empowering. Don't be a ninny and a prude. They worked damned hard on that video. Those girls were weeping with joy when they won the competition. :alienblush:

Keep remembering. It's empowering for today's girls. :p They're so strong. In their second video, they're in leather in a boxing ring.

Like Me

They didn't forget those tube socks, though. I'll bet their daddies called all their neighbors over to watch and brag, "That's my baby girl."

I like the word "Girlicious". I didn't know it was the name of their group.

As for the videos, I got a kick out of the first one and thought the second was better.

Oh, and Dorian, Jared Padalecki's fiancé Sandra McCoy was competing on one of these Pussycat Dolls reality shows.

And CW claims they aren't trying to attract the male audience? :wtf:

No guy in his right mind is going to watch that crapfest. Not when there's porn available at the click of a keyboard or remote control button.

I think I'd rather watch porn than that garbage, too. :p

What's wrong with teenage girls nowadays, anyway? When I was a teenager you couldn't have PAID me to watch something like that. At least throw some semi-nekked Milo Ventimiglia in there...

Hee. I know. Gorgeous as she is, at almost 29 Sandra's far too old for Robin Antin's little group, too old to project that jail bait vibe. :wtf: When a presentation gets to the point that it's about how the girls look more than it's about the song, that's the point where it crosses from sexy to trashy. Crop tops and micro minis they flip up so you can see their undies, and then stripping to bras and panties in the school yard with the other girls is just too much. I thought Girlicious sounded like a group that would do songs like "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" a la Cyndi Lauper. How stupid was I? :guffaw: Tastefully sexy is great, but when the director goes out of his way to make them look like underaged teen girls at Catholic school, it's not music anymore. Like Sheep said, guys would rather look at porn if they want to see chicks strip down. Why bother with the pretense at music? It's teen girls that Robin Antin is marketing for with Girlicious. I've seen "Girlicious wear" t-shirts and clothing on line already--none of it terribly modest. No, on CW men watch wrestling, (which CW has lost to mynetworktv next fall) Reaper, (which is likely cancelled) Smallville, and Supernatural (though that's evenly split amonst gender)--which are both safe by virtue of being Warner produced shows.

Temis speaks the truth. Teenaged girls may emulate Girlicious, but us big girls would only watch Girlicious if Milo Ventimiglia was mixed in. We like our men. :p Actually, I prefer Jared Padalecki to Milo. If Rory Gilmore had known he'd put on 30 pounds of muscle she'd have thought twice before dumping him for Jess.

All this hiding under those layers and he's only been shirtless a grand total of twice during the past three seasons. Once every season and a half. Eric Kripke doesn't share Robin Antin and CW's philosophy on making their young people naked as often as possible. With boys you tell a story instead of stripping.

I don't get why even teenaged girls want to watch some girls flounce around in cornball "schoolgirl" outfits. Once they hit puberty, their interests should change over to Milo et al.

I suspect that video may be aimed at the under-12, boys-are-gross, still-plays-with-Barbies set. The CW's new demo! :rommie:

They don't, Tomato. That's the point. The CW's strategy is ludicrous and it's bringing the network to financial ruin. The CW has only existed for two years, and it's already having to ask for reduced license fees to air its own shows. It's airing fare like "Farmer Wants A Wife" (starts next week) and the "Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious." Also, Crowned. That was the mini reality mother/daughter beauty pageant competition that aired in between Beauty and the Geek cycles this past January. It's been renewed for next season. :wtf: I'm not lying. The teen girls think Girlicious is great because that's "female empowerment." That's the line that was touted on that show. If you're sexy and the boys want to fuck you, that's female empowerment. There were three girls amongst the contestants that had voices that could rival any American Idol winner, if not better. They aren't the girls Robin Antin chose for the group, but they had fantastic voices. One was too old (25) with bleached hair and she looked like a rocker chick. One was redheaded with an ordinary face and about 5' 11 and a half inches tall. The third was a....gasp!....size twelve. All three sounded outstanding but....they didn't look the part. They weren't petite with a jail bait vibe; they wouldn't look the best prancing down an alley in micro mini Catholic school girl skirts while flipping the back of the skirt up so you can see their lace undies. They wouldn't have looked girl stripping down to bras, panties, and tube socks in the school yard in the video. This is female empowerment these days. This is the CW's programming. Somehow, I don't think this is what the ladies who marched during the 70s had in mind. :vulcan:

This is why Reaper and Supernatural, the only two decent shows on the network, get no advertising and get lost in the shuffle. They depend on story. Reaper is witty (but Ray Wise is in his 50s for shame for shame) and Supernatural commits the offense of keeping its two muscular lead stars under layers of clothing and trying to tell a story.

Ha! I should have posted their live performance that they did on KTLA. They wore the leather hooker wear from their second video in the boxing ring, but without the computer enhancements and lipsynching it was just embarrassing in a live performance. They can't sing. Their voices are very average at best. When I said the three girls Robin Antin eliminated were much better singers, I wasn't exaggerating. For crying out loud, I sang in the concert choir at my college. I can carry a tune better than that when I sing in church choir on Sunday in front of my congregation.

FYI, the black girl with the blond highlights who they're trying to make look like Beyonce redux, she's Gayle Sayers' niece. As in from Brian's Song. That Gayle Sayers.

Too bad girls didn't have role models like that when I was a teenager, I envy todays youth.
