The "Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay" Thread

Anyone see this? I saw it last night. It was pretty funny, and like the first one if not a bit more extremely vulgar. I still think Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle is better, and I was half-expecting them to set-up a third film but it appears like, for the most part, things are all wrapped up. I'm sure they could do a third film if this one was successful, as with all Hollywood films, but this lacked the "set-up" that the first one had. I have no idea what they'd do for a third film now, besides merely stay in Amsterdam.

Anyway, some pretty good laughs and a lot of blatantly funny gags that poke fun at practically all types of racism.

It didn't start out well but picked up later and overall I say it was about as funny as the first one. The NPH scenes were all very good. Also the way that the movie poked fun at the current administration was a bit different from the usual trite.

I'm going up to Berkeley for the next week, so hopefully I will see this with my friends "properly".

For some reason this only got released in Medieval England last Friday. I saw it today, hmm, a bit weak.
I don't know, it was just kinda boring in places. I'm a massive huge fan of the first film, its one of those films I can watch again and again. I just watched it yet again a few days ago in preperation for this new one.

The first one is just so awesome, the laughs literally never let up, something hilarious is happening like every minute. But I felt with this new one at times it was a looooong wait between the gags.
That's what I love about the first one, is the plot is so bare its almost non-existent. "Go to White Castle for some burgers because we're hungry" and that's it. It's basicaly a bunch of crazy sketches and mad happenings along the way.
Yet it felt with this they'd forgotten that, and given some lame plot about Kumar's ex and him trying to win her back, and the B-plot of the detectives that gets annoying after a while.

As I say there was some funny stuff, I liked the Cyclops in the basement part, but even then that segment felt like a poor mans version of the Freakshow bit in the first movie.

Plus, where were the Extreme Guys?!
"Exteme Kayaking! EXTREEEEEEEME!!!"
:guffaw:

I think I'll wait to this is very cheap before I'd buy the DVD, for now I'll stick to the first movie, to which the sequel doesn't even compare

I still can't believe what happened to NPH though. :(

What Ted already said...

P.S. - This one went way overboard on the toilet humor. I preferred Part I, because it was better written and did a much better job of confronting social issues from the Asian American perspective.

You know...on second thought...I should have watched Speed Racer instead. But, "Asian Pride" won out that time! :bolian:

In Speed Racer there was a pretty significant asian presence too.

I saw it on opening day. Loved every minute of it :)
