In a general way, what we're trying to do with the movie is honor the original series, and yet push it in another direction and make it a little more active. The TV series is very thoughtful and meditative, and we've got a more active movie.

Cho was joking, and the interviewer knew it.

Even from the OP's edited version of the remark, I thought that was fairly obvious. Those who took it seriously for more than a few seconds are probably taking a few other things in their lives far more seriously than are warranted.
