Barcley and Troi on Voyager - What did you Think?

I don't necessarily agree or disagree. I don't think it ruined the premise. If the premise was "Starfleet doesn't know what happened to Voyager," then maybe. But the premise was "Voyager stuck in the Delta Quadrant trying to get home."

They made contact, yeah, but it sure as hell didn't help them get out of the Delta Quadrant.

And I still think that the whole premise for the series was ruined in "Message In A Bottle" when they got in touch with Earth. That shouldn't have happened before season 7.

as I answered you the last time you said this exact thing in this same thread....

Your statements are incorrect. In Message in a Bottle they did make contact with the Federation thanks to the Hirogen array. That was one time they had contact. After that they didn't have ANY contact until the season six episode Pathfnder...two years later. And then they are only able to send a data pack once a month. And it wasn't until the 20th episode in the last season that they were able to have 11 minutes of talk time. That's hardly "as easily as making a phone call from Los Angeles to San Francisco

I did read your statement and I understood what you meant but you got it all wrong.

My point is that it doesn't matter if they only had one contact with Earth in that episode. It still ruined the premise for the whole series. The later episodes with regular contacts with Earth and holograms jumping on and off the ship only made the whole scenario even worse.

They shouldn't have been able to contact Earth until season 7 when they were close to Federation space.

there were no "holograms jumping on and off the ship" there was one time that a holgram came to Voyager, and one time they sent the Doctor to help Zimmerman......both in the last season. They were in their regular data packets that they got once a month.

the premise of the show was that they were in the Delta Quadrant, not that they couldn't have contact with Star Fleet. The premis wasn't ruined because they were still in the Delta Quadrant until the LAST EPISODE. The only way the premise would have been "ruined" would be if that contact got them home, which it didnt

and since you've said you haven't watched season 7 ever, you realy have no right to tell me that I "got it all wrong" since you haven't even seen the episodes you are talking about

Barclay was always such an interesting character, and giving him a lot of focus on the show was a smart move. Troi was admittedly a less compelling character; but her role in her VOY appearances is limited to being Barclay's therapist; and so she was effective and complementary.

"Pathfinder" was one of VOY's strongest episodes overall. I must say the same for "Life Line"; though Barclay and Troi play second fiddle here to the one-man act that is Robert Picardo. While "Inside Man" is the weak link of the Barclay/Troi trilogy, it's still a fun episode.

he was a great character, but they didn't even realy give him that much focus, it was only a few episodes

They didn't use them that often and when they did, it was nice to see them. Barclay had a cause, helping to get Voyager home, that he passionately cared about. That was cool.

I liked Troi a lot better in the Voyager eps, where she was something other than window dressing. Plus, she looked hotter than ever!

I couldn't stand Barclay. When I saw Barclay and Troi on Voyager, it took me out of the story and made me wonder whether they were fulfilling some sort of contractual obligation to work a certain amount. The hologram Barclay on Voyager was pretty entertaining, though.

she definately looked much better than in her whole run on TNG

Really? I thought she looked sickly on VOY, but beautiful on TNG. On VOY, her face was all cheek bones.

One episode--"Pathfinder"--would have been fine. The rest were overkill.

"Inside Man" is in my bottom 10 episodes.

She wasn't as dolled up as she was during TNG. Personally I liked her better from FC on. The dark uniform and her hair let down was nice. But I like normal looking women.

I think what made her look "bad" to me in TNG was the terribly 80's hairdos she had.

Word!

I swear all that make up made her look like a ho. She did look more natural from FC on, I agree.

totaly, the 80's hair was always terrible...the "cosmic cheerleader" look was never flattering

Was I watching a totally different TNG than the rest of you? Truth be told, I haven't seen much of TNG in a while. I remember thinking she looked good in the cat suit, but more than that, I remember the WTF-ness of wondering to myself, "Why am seeing this woman's cleavage?"

I've rewatched TNG on dvd and the first couple seasons are almost unwatchable, they're so corny and cheesy. honestly they don't hold up as well to time as even TOS does. Maybe it's just me but it's just so......80s!!!

Agreed, plus if you watch Troi's character over season 1 and most of season 2 her accent seems to change. Kinda weird.
