Last movie you saw?

Randomly put on Now You See Me last night. It really is just a fun movie. And just seeing how differently Mark Ruffalo looks from one moment to the next when he goes from FBI Agent Dylan Rhodes to mastermind Dylan Shrike gives me chills every time. Nothing about him changes but also everything about him changes.

As maligned as they are I enjoyed all 3 of those movies.

I watched Backrooms on HBOMax last night. It's fantastic movies, weird and creepy, in all the right ways. I'm usually the kind of person that wants everything explained, but I actually like the fact that this only had one sort of explanation of one part of what's going on. It's really proof that you don't need crazy amount money to make a good movie that can bring in a lot of money. It was made for only $10 million and made $400 million. One fun fact I saw on the Wikipedia is that the guy who directed was only 20, and he set the record for the youngest person to ever direct a movie that made #1 at box office.
Nowadays, figures from Generation Z are also stepping up as directors. Many of them began their careers as YouTubers, built massive audiences on the platform, leveraged that success to establish strong networks in Hollywood, and are now making their own films. Furthermore, the movie you mentioned originated as a short film on YouTube—a project that built a unique universe and lore based on those shorts. Beyond that, Hollywood studios realized that many major directors were aging and that even directors who had emerged in the last decade—like Taika Waititi—were already over forty; consequently, they decided to make room for talent from Generation Z.

Detective Story (1951) with Kirk Douglas (a young Michael Strong—the original Dr. Corby—has a small role). More topically relevant to the present day than I expected, though certainly a film of its time. Worth a viewing.

I enjoy noir movies, and haven't seen that one! I'll have to check it out. I do enjoy a good Kirk Douglas movie.
