Evidence of SNW being a possible alternate timeline from TOS

I assure you most people outside of the most engaged members of fanbases don’t truly care about respecting past source material. What they want is easily accessible entertainment.
This is the most important point here. We shouldn’t be assuming that the opinions of folks here or online reviewer outlets represent the needs of the bulk of viewers that really make the difference in terms of what the studios need to see.

Only SW of the 3 franchises you mentioned had a full reboot that decanonized movies and tv shows (Ewok movies, Clone Wars 2003 show, Droids and Ewoks cartoons).

The other 2 have actually acknowledged the source material, and "disrespect" is a VERY vague term in that manner. Literally the last Dr. Who episode featured Omega who hadn't shown up in like 30 plus years. Starfleet Academy literally had an entire episode devoted to DS9.

And even before SW's reboot, Attack of the Clones was badly received. You're going to blame that reception on disrespecting the source material? The writer and director of AOTC WAS the source material.

You want to know what the highest grossing film of 2026 so far is? The Super Mario Galaxy movie caused a HUGE rift in Mario fandom where it made 2 characters into siblings who weren't related in the games. Star Fox was clumsily shoved in when there was no indication in decades of either Mario or Star Fox games that they even existed in the same universe. Didn't seem to hurt its box office much.

It doesn't change the fact thst SFA failed. The last Star Wars movie failed(Kathleen Kennedy used up all the fan goodwill) Dr Who wss canceled because its ratings tanked. . Either things need to change or these franchises are gone.

Maybe. But not in the way you think. Focusing on deep lore and “canon” is only going to drive potential new fans away. You want franchises to survive? Cut ties and start all the way over. Being shortsighted and focusing solely on existing fans is the perfect way for these franchises to dry up. Fans of TNG or the Star Wars OT aren’t getting any younger.

I agree. These franchises are cooked to the point of being burned. At this point things are a mess canonically and modern creators that have taken over these properties have issues with the source material. A full reboot shoukd have been done especially for Trek and Who in the first place. Will a restart work? It might but not right now. Maybe in 10 to 20 years.

Bye bye franchises.

"Goodbye, Jean-Luc. You had such potential but then all good things must come to an end."

Pretty much. Yup. They are done. I hate to say it but im not sad about it. They are ruined beyond repair now.

Who said ruined?

That's the ridiculousness of this hyperbolic argument. They're not ruined. The things I enjoy i entertainment continue to exist. If a franchise produces something I don't like (TNG, VOY, TMP, ENT, PIC) then I don't watch.

Nothing is ruined. Time had just progressed and that is ok because, as Picard notes, we cherish these moments because they may never come again.

Ok. Lets break this down. Was SFA a success on streaming? How about section 31. The last season of SNW? Did it gain more viewrs or lose them? Look if everything was fantastic. If ratings and views were hitting it out of the park I would agree with you. But they aren't. They had some true momentum after Picard season 3. It seemed like people would have preferred something in the 25th century. We didn't get that. We got another prequel movie and a sequel to STD in s century so far removed that no one but screw cared to watch. I mean SFA was getting trounced by shows like Everybody Loves Raymond. SNW is still doing much better numbers than SFA but its numbers are down. A coming puppet episode probably won't help SNW gain new viewers. Star Trek is going out at its lowest point. The full movie reboot we are hearing about might be its last chance.

Another solutiion. Paramount could also save the prime timeline by making all kurtzman Trek an alternate universe save for STP. They can than make a 25th century show free of any future 32nd century canon because it will be an alternate future.

Hahahahahahahahahaha, is it 2026 or 2005?

2005 was absolutely the low point. Nothing was in the pipeline after Enterprise was cancelled. We still have three seasons across two shows that are going to air.

I just can’t take the doom and gloom seriously when we’ve been on this carnival ride before, and we’re in much firmer ground now.

Dude a YouTube channel showing only a Spock action figure got better initial views than the paramount YouTube channel showing the first episode of SFA. That was the low point and it was an embarrassment to star trek.

Franchise is cooked if Picard is the thing everyone is hanging their hat on. It wasn’t successful, if it had been Paramount would’ve been tripping over themselves getting a follow up out the door. Much like they did with SNW following up Discovery.

Anecdotal evidence that only fuels your personal bias. It does not empirically prove anything.

Besides, the Academy episode was geolocked to the US only, further affecting its views.

The first two seasons sucked. It did in the 3rd season whst they should hvve done in the first. Bringing the tng crew back together. Having the main actor dictate what he wanted the show to be was ludicrous. By season 3 it was too late. Was it a better season than 1 and 2. Absolutely. Did it have irs problems. Absolutely. But it did get things back in track. Just too little and too late. So yes I agree. The franchise is cooked. The bigger part of the fandom has checked out long ago.

I got about halfway through season three before I bailed from boredom. That they didn’t do a follow up tells me that I’m not the only one.

Of course they didn't do a follow up. It was matalas who show ran the 3rd season. When Kurtzman came back he green lit S32 and SFA instead. Both far worse than Picard season 3. So his gamble failed and we are where we are now. A franchise in critical condition on life support. Just in time for the 60th anniversary. Lol

You do realize that Paramount is his boss? If they saw money in following Picard with a related show, they would’ve ordered a follow up show.

Ultimately, Paramount chose not to follow it up. Probably because few people were actually watching. Those few that were, were there for the TNG fan wank.

Picard literally had zero dramatic value. It was the gluten-free cheese puffs of the franchise.

Paramount owns the property. Secret Hideout is under contract with them. Kurtzman and his company have to do what Paramount tells them to do. If there was reason to do Legacy, it would have happened. Just like SNW spun off from Disco. Because it was an order from the studio.

Kurtzman is show runner. He makes pitches to paramount. He did not pitch legacy. Matalas only talked about it in public. It was only a idea. He had nothing worked on yet. Instead S32 and SFA were pitch by kurtzman and he got them. Unfortunately those were the finally nails in the coffin.
