Barcley and Troi on Voyager - What did you Think?

I hate Barclay and was never fond of Troi.
I guess it's a pet peeve but I just find socially inept characters or people like Barclay irritating. It's kinda ironic considering I'm a sci-fi fan that has also attended my fair share of Cons. They portray Troi sometimes as a bitch and it kinda turns me off to her character because she has no reason to be one. You ain't no Seven of Nine, honey!

I don't ever watch any episodes featuring those two characters.

hey!!! Going to cons doesn't make you socialy inept....I've been to many conventions
No, I didn't mean it that way.

However, Cons. do seem to draw allot of that crowd. You know what I mean, the "I don't know what a shaving razor or a bar of soap are but I still think I'm the coolest one in the room still wearing my black trenchcoat from the 80's as I sit by myself in the corner eating a can of beets.";) All of this I've actually witnessed at Cons.

yes, some people who go to cons are.......unfortunate to say the least

oh man, some of the people I've seen at cons........:guffaw:

I did think it was a little silly that in at least 2 (if not all 3) of Troi's appearances, they had to find some way to make her eat chocolate ice cream, as if that was her sole character trait.

LOL ... I never picked up on that until I read your comment. But it is true...talk about being around friends who are enablers :rommie:

Well, based on what we got in TNG, maybe it was her sole character trait. ;)

This was yet another attempt to make Voyager appeal to the core trek base.
Too bad it was complete TRIPE>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>..

And I still think that the whole premise for the series was ruined in "Message In A Bottle" when they got in touch with Earth. That shouldn't have happened before season 7.

as I answered you the last time you said this exact thing in this same thread....

Your statements are incorrect. In Message in a Bottle they did make contact with the Federation thanks to the Hirogen array. That was one time they had contact. After that they didn't have ANY contact until the season six episode Pathfnder...two years later. And then they are only able to send a data pack once a month. And it wasn't until the 20th episode in the last season that they were able to have 11 minutes of talk time. That's hardly "as easily as making a phone call from Los Angeles to San Francisco

They added a nice bit of texture to the whole getting-back-in-touch-with-Starfleet arc. However, I do think they were used too much, at least considering the repetitive nature of Troi's contribution to the plot. If I wanted to watch Troi counceling Barclay, I would have tuned into TNG. Watching the last season and a half of Voyager, I was left with the impression that they were featured more than some of the show's regulars.

Troi was in 2 episodes

Still too much in my opinion. :)

Nah!!! :)

I did read your statement and I understood what you meant but you got it all wrong.

My point is that it doesn't matter if they only had one contact with Earth in that episode. It still ruined the premise for the whole series. The later episodes with regular contacts with Earth and holograms jumping on and off the ship only made the whole scenario even worse.

They shouldn't have been able to contact Earth until season 7 when they were close to Federation space.
