This was recently discussed in his forum, but "We Travel By Night" has assembled a series of Probert's various preproduction sketches into CG models, taking a few artistic liberties along the way:

I wish the video had shown the sketches.
Same! I'm familiar with the original E-D bridge concept, but I was unfamiliar with some of the intermediate designs between that and the final design.

I don't remember many of those from the magazine article. I'm sure I hadn't seen the sketch placing the bridge at the back of the neck, in the battle section, which makes sense of a few things (the sketch with the final revisions of the ship overall, with the lengthened nacelles and the bridge added to the top-middle of the saucer, and also that since, if the premise of separating the ship had been stuck with, the stardrive section would've been the half of the ship doing stuff, and it'd make sense for the new, fancy bridge set to stay with it, instead of having the most dramatic moments of episodes in the tiny hacked-up version of the TMP bridge).

I like the two story design for a spacedock core…but with a walkway angling down between the two stations—one for arrivals, the other for departures.

The screen shows the internal view of Spacedock

Well, I am quite glad it ended up the way it did.

Staring into the back of an ambassador's head during a shift, would irritate the shit out of me.

Be glad it wasn’t Admiral Edward Mordake

(Good set up for a sequel to MALIGNANT)
