What are your opinions regarding Star Trek that are, shall we say, unorthodox?

We Travel By Night has finally finished his Enterprise-D bridge concept bridge video.

i vaguely recall reading that one of the mudd episodes was intended as a backdoor pilot for a mudd series, but i don't remember where or if true.

Not feeling it. Nothing in either episode strikes me as backdoor pilot. They tend to be fairly easy to spot. The guest stars take center stage and are the cause or focus of the resolution while our main cast feel and appear like supporting cast

Not to derail the thread, but just a random thought regarding "Assignment: Earth": Why was Spock hanging out in the transporter room at the beginning of the episode? They had just completed time travel, they were undertaking a highly unusual research mission, there was no indication anyone was preparing to beam down to Earth at that time. Why wouldn't he be on the bridge?

I am very happy with what we got in TNG but man.... The one with the literal bridge smack dab in the middle is something I would have love to have seen as a set.

He was doing science stuff.

The transporter room is for pooping.

Checking up on various systems after the trip? He is the first officer.

Nope.

Here's a list of hour-long shows waaaaay before Star Trek (those with * shifted formats from half-hour to an hour during their run). Hardly a new concept.

1955 Alfred Hitchcock Presents*
1955 Cheyenne
1955 The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp*
1955 Gunsmoke*
1956 Conflict
1957 Perry Mason
1957 Wagon Train
1957 Maverick
1957 Have Gun – Will Travel*
1958 77 Sunset Strip
1958 Peter Gunn
1958 Yancy Derringer
1958 The Texan
1959 Bonanza
1959 Rawhide
1959 The Untouchables
1959 Riverboat
1959 Bourbon Street Beat
1959 Hawaiian Eye
1959 The Rebel
1959 Black Saddle
1960 Checkmate
1960 Route 66
1960 Hong Kong
1960 Adventures in Paradise
1960 Klondike
1960 Stagecoach West

What is true is that half-hour dramas were waning by that period.
Would you know why THE VIRGINIAN regularly ran for 90 minutes during its run?

I usually don’t like to call out any particular actor negatively. Because I know a lot more goes into it than reading lines.

So, as I’ve watched select episodes lately, I’ve found that Marina Sirtis’s acting has not aged well. She was absolutely cringeworthy in “The Loss”.

Oddly enough MeTV+ ran a preTNG episode of Hunter and a postTNG episode of Diagnosis: Murder last Thursday with Marina as the bad guy and I don't think she was that bad.
In fact, I didn't see the twist of her being the killer in Diagnosis.

She wasn’t bad all the time, just that, overall, it hasn’t aged well.

You should check out her Oscar-level work in Sharknado.

:shifty:

She was good enough in TNG. I actually thought she was better in PIC.
