Sounds like another gimmick episode in a series that's drowning itself in gimmick episodes.
I've said it before, but during season 3 and the press junket rounds, SNW started feeling less like a Trek series and more like if Community had turned into a Trek anthology parody.
I'm generally okay with SNW's gimmicks, but a Shatner episode would be nothing but empty memberberries. We dodged a bullet there.
1. Joan Collins doesn’t give a shit about Star Trek. And really, who cares about Edith Keeler?
2. Shatner is too old to play Kirk again.
3. Even if he wasn’t too old, a script with some alternate version of Kirk instead of the actual Kirk, would not have been something Shatner would have done.
4. And even if he did do it, paying Shatner an exorbitant amount of money for some stupid gimmick episode would have been counterproductive.
5. I’m not even sure I believe that they actually wanted to do a Shatner episode. I think that’s just bullshit to get fans riled up.

I would take this gimmick over some of the others
Not one single person. Despite the supposed great love of Kirk's life she is never referenced again. So, clearly it doesn't matter that much.
Mind you, as far as TOS and its movies go, the only one of Kirk's ladies who does get a second mention is either Carol Marcus or Janet Wallace, depending on which one was the blonde lab technician he nearly married.
There was also the enigmatic "Ruth" (TOS: Shore Leave) and never-seen "Antonia" (GEN), both of whom seem to have been quite significant fixtures in Kirk's life.
MA has itemized pages of Kirk's love interests - mostly one-off seductions that he was using to get what he needed.

And the UK and AustraliaThe man is still riding horses and making appearances across the country.
If getting there occurs solely through time travel, I think that idea would only work with mirror Kirk. COTEOF is considered by some as a secret mirror universe story anyways, and it would give a resolution to mirror Kirk's story. And could say a lot about the mirror universe and the people that inhabit it.

Otherwise, they'd have to figure out a way to visit to the Nexus and prime Kirk. Maybe the Nexus passes through the Talos system?
The situation is irrelevant. Shatner is never playing Kirk again, mirror or otherwise.

William Shatner and Captain Kirk are mentioned in the same breath by most people. How is he too old to play the character? He would not be playing him in his 30s. The man is still active and was in frickin space not so long ago. But to play a character he is most well known for, he is too old?
